Pretty poor by WA to fall 5 overs short for the day, I know they didn't bowl spin but that shouldn't be an excuse.
It's never an excuse. Even with an all pace attack. Over rates in today's cricket are just pathetic. Reasonable day's effort by the Redbacks, 352 runs in a day is what shield teams should be aiming for. Scores of 60, 46, 53, are all good starts but they didn't go on with it. Yet another good knock from Tom Cooper with 99, he's having a great summer with 667 runs @ 74.11.
Glad the Bigbash hasn't affected him.

How quickly did the all pace attacks of the Windies used to bowl their overs back in the day?
In the 1980s, they never did because there were no over rate penalties back then. Lloyd used 4 quicks in 6 over spells and they would be lucky to exceed 24 overs in a session. The batting was always facing 2 relatively fresh quicks and struggled to make runs, especially against continued short pitched bowling. If they weren't knocked over by a great ball, batsmen tended to get out in frustration trying to push the run rate.
When they bought in over rates, Lloyd pointed out it wasn't a problem because the Windies were bowling teams out in less than a day anyway, which was ostensibly correct. However, the move was made to entice them to use "spinners" such as Viv Richards in order to give batsman something they may prefer to face instead of a barage of high quality quicks all day.
Take the clock back to the 1960-61 series when they had Wesley Hall coming in off a very long run up, and doing a lot of bowling, and they were comfortably bowling 100 EIGHT ball overs in a day.

Yep, he's been pretty selfish lately, including through the big bash, and from before. Seems to be batting to "be the man", only he can't go on with it, gets out in some dumb way and leaves the team under pressure. Needs something to change - if the coaches can't change him than a change of scenery is probably not a bad option.
The go slow must have been a directive from the coach.
Going the tonk would have been the selfish thing to do. If he's out of form, at least seeing off the new ball is a team-first approach - especially with so many other first-choice players missing. All comes to naught if those after him can't take advantage of it though...
Going the tonk? Mate, 25 runs from 155 balls is god awful batting. Full stop. You can't tell me there weren't singles and 2s to be had by pushing to the gaps. I hope to never see Borecroft bat again. I liked him better when he was stuffing sandpaper down his jocks.
