Victorian Shenae Brooke's body has been found in the forest in Tiblisi Georgia where she was working as a teacher. Shenae grew up in Warrnambool.

A search party set out to find Ms Brooke after a friend in California received a call from her while she was being attacked and heard her screaming for help. In a document used to co-ordinate the search, they said Ms Brooke was heard saying "please let me go, OK... just let me go".

She was not heard from again.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade officer from the Australian embassy in Turkey has travelled to Tbilisi and consular assistance is being provided to Ms Brooke's family.

Georgian media outlets are quoting the country's interior minister as saying officials have some information about the alleged murderer, but denied reports two other women had recently been assaulted in the same area.

Terrifying. Women especially should never be out alone in an unknown country.

The Georgian Interior Ministry said in a statement that forensic experts matched genetic traces left at the scene with a 33-year-old Georgian man known as 'R.M'.

"As a result of genetic examination report the identity of the offender was unequivocally confirmed," the statement said.

The statement also said a knife was found by police.
