Sherminator anyone?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

If we get Sherman for a 2nd rounder I would not be happy, but if that happens, then I hope we drop right off getting Houli. Unless we can trade some players for more picks.
I don't want either Houli or Sherman, and I damn well don't want both.

To be honest I have not seen much of Sherman and less of Houli so I really can't gauge their potential but I had also seen little of Thomson & Hislop.

I guess I will place my faith in Hardwick and his team but I am a little nervous about this talk...

I really think sherman will regain his form from a couple of years ago and become a big asset with whichever club. A really different player to what we have. Get him now while his value is down.

Whos kidding who. We have been in rebuild since the early 80's

A lot of teams are at least 15 years off depending on how they balance and develop their list.

It is all very well to be talking contention in 2-3 years but I am taliking winning it and usually there is one team, in contention and the others are making up the numbers.

Eg. The bulldogs are not in contention and may not be for another 15 years

15 years? WTF??? that's stupid. Look at Freo this year, they turned it around in 12 months, just another moronic comment.

All right if Richmond win the premiership in 4 years I will donate $100,000 to the RFC.

Has anyone else got the balls to walk the talk!!!!

Words are cheap. If you can't back up what you say don't bother saying it at all!!!

As if you would and you would never provide proof if you did.

15 years is a ridiculous comment to make.
The dynamics of any list can change immensely within 18 to 24 months, so if the recruiters and development staff do there job correctly, then even this time frame, we could potentially be in the mix for sustaninded finals appearances..

As for Sherman, thnx but no thnx and if the clubs is student of history, then look no further then sancho for an edifying lesson

Lol 15 years that is ridiculous. Teams have really only mastered drafting and rebuilding in the early 2000's.

Seriously 15 years lol players careers don't even last that long these days...probably the funniest comment I have seen.

Collingwood are half the team of Geelong.

The only reason Collingwood will beat Geelong today is because they are younger.

Baby bombers all over again nearly

That contradicts what you're saying about us being 6 years away.

Not at all. We should be chasing 17 and 18 olds.

In 6 years time we , along with GC and GWS will be the Collingwoods running down the current Geelongs which , in six years, will then be Collingwood,Melbourne, Hawthorn, North and others.

A lot are talking as if our window is in the next 4 years. This is wrong.

Our window is really 6 years from 4 years out, When we get there we can extend it through various trades and other list management techniques.

This is why, even in terms of revenue, getting Mundy is absolutely pointless. We need to get players round JR, Cotch and Martin not Lids.

Lids is a superstar, he will , be old mister reliable like Bruce Doul or Milburn, just plug along very quickly and pick up 3 or so premierships at the back end of his career. Thats the vision I see anyway

I don't agree with your 5-6 year examples Magic, but I do agree with you when you say we should draft young kids.

We are not Collingwood, who need a ruckman to win a premiership, so we get Jolly. We are Richmond, a side with about 20 holes in their list, Sherman won't make a difference, drafting and pumping games into kids WILL make a difference.

Sherman=Good move

I rate the man and we are desperate for another ready made midsized goal kicker. Don't question Dimma. Dimma knows what he's doing

On a 3 year deal, worth 400k AND we have to give up a 2nd round draft pick???

Go and get well and truly ****ed.

When will clubs realise that sometimes when clubs find themselves in situations like this, other clubs like us are best to let them stay there. Seeing Brisbane carry such an expensive dead weight is better than us taking them off their hands on the cheap.

It ****s their salary cap for 2-3 years and seriously restrains them from competing financially.

Agree with all of this.
Also a chance we could do a Hawthorn and steal one early, but the plan should always be long term.

Shuffling the deck chairs is not getting better. He's in the same bracket of players all competing for game time, and none of us are any the wiser as to will make it and whol will not.

I'd rather invest in an unknown kid, than invest in a headcase thats gonna cost 400 large each year. Sherman... l feel like l'm gonna be sick.

Sherman... laughable. He will make Tucks decision making look supersonic. :o

I agree.
Not often we do but I do very much so.
What was wrong with this year seeing five or so draftees go about their stuff and doing pretty well?
Jesus, it doesn't take long for us to want to go back to our old ways does it?
Kids, kids and more kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it that Richmond are always the one shopping around other peoples trash hoping to find a little nugget. Does anyone really think that Geelong and Collingwood would even entertain the idea of getting Sherman?

Jesus Christ... l want a recruitment model thats going to see us win a premiership. Sherman is exactly the type of junk that sets teams back, not takes them forward.

We get rid of one high-paid turnover merchant (McMahon) and we go and recruit a more expensive one with worse skills and worse decision making. What are we honestly doing? I, hand on heart, would rather we just keep McMahon for another year. It costs us less and it will prevent us from giving away a draft pick. Callan Ward, Callan "****ing" Ward everyone. :o

When will people learn? I'm too tired to type anymore, tell me its a sick joke, someone, please!

In saying that, we shouldn't completely ignore trading just because in the past we have been terrible at it in the past. It can give you a good mix but it's difficult because of 2 things.

A) Teams will not willingling trade away good players, even if players wanted to leave they would do everything they can to keep them.

B) Generally players being traded away are fringe players (Houli) or players who have had a poor season and are limited (Sherman).

These 2 points alone work against you in finding good trades. Houli and Sherman are not the right targets and would be be major busts ala Thomson/Hislop/McMahon, etc. List goes on.

Hit the draft, we only just started to draft well. Trade away unwanted players for picks ala Raines and Schulz, only trade for players if it's a very good deal and the right player. Why go topping up with more senior experienced players when we're a fair way off it? Chasing recycled players is generally a means of topping up to have a crack at a flag. We're a long way off which we're a fair way off in terms of our development. We're still in rebuild mode.

My biggest fear is DH may overrate the list and will go too hard too early instead of just taking the extra pain for extra gain. He said he wouldn't do that many times and won't take shortcuts. I expect him to stick to this sort of mantra. This type of attitude will see us have success. He hasn't done much wrong yet so I can have faith in him but being a Richmond fan at this type of year no matter who is in charge makes you nervous. Especially these players we're being linked to.

This draft, although heavily compromised, is meant to be one for the ages. Talent galore. Yes GC will reap the rewards, but why are Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Hawthorn considering using their compensation picks this year? They have the option to use an 'end of first round selection this year' which will be selection 26 minimum. Or they could wait a couple of years and it becomes selection 19 or 20.

Its because they recognise that the draft this year is far stronger than most years, it bats deep. Our 2nd pick is in early 30s (l think) and we're giving that away for someone like a Sherman?!?!

Oh dear. Anyone else smell the dejavu of Wallace and his 2nd up attempts at a draft.

We havent learnt a thing. :thumbsd:

Can't add much more than that from both of you. I absolutely agree.
Go the draft.
If we must trade, then by all means trade for quality.
Bring in kids who are Richmond right from the start.

Madtigerfan i feel your pain, Mr magic has been talking like this for like 2 days..:thumbsd: 4 years, 6 years, 15 years, i'm so lost with what he is trying to get across. i tried clearing it up last night without success.

I'm so for just letting hardwick and all our recruiters do thier bloody jobs with our backing... i'm sure they don't use a bloody orb ball like Mr Magic to make decisions etc!

if we get sherman, mundy, houli etc etc and get a few good young blokes i'm sure it will be done in the best interests of the club.. i'm all for youth, but whats the harm in having a a little bit of experience added in too along the way.. i'm sure there is no-one out there that thinks cuzzy was a waste of space? i think we are heading to a good place!
