carltons return to training for pre season has been nothing short of dreadful...Pagan is fuming at the poor return of whitnall and nick stevens as well as the younger players such as betts, blackwell, hartlett, russell...this is what was said:

- Training yesterday, their were huge issues upon players being terribly unfit in comparison to this time last year.
- pagan pulled the senoir players being, stevens and whitnall and told then to smarten up...stevens has put 5 kilograms on, with him weighing 90 kilos at the minute (his playing weight 85kg)
- pagan told joran russell you are a nice guy, though if you dont change your ways you wil be back in S.A. by next year...Hartlett was told the same, and blackwell to W.A.
- One on One player meetings were held, blackwell apparently copped it..after the meeting he said "it was not pretty"
- Betts returned in shocking form, so pagn too laid down the beat on him.
- Terry daniher took training yeaterday, and all reports fro players were good.

***I got his inside word, you dont have to believe me, call me a moron, call me what you like though this is fact!!! If you wanna believe it, believe it, if not then dont...i would not waste my time and write this is it were not true

Calm down. We believe you. After all, this is the kind of s**t we've gotten used to over the last 4 years.

I'm glad Pagan told it to them as it is. I suspect he's getting ticked off with the lack of results over his term.

Gee I think Stevo is really enjoying the huge salary pack u guys are paying for - what was it - 5 years. Enjoy the baggage...lol...

As for russell I think home will always be best. Pagan can send him back this year, or is it too late?

Attitude problems? Because only a hard man could fault their football after only one year.

I don't believe it. :thumbsd:

A pity you missed Stevens more this year and have now moved on Pickett to his third club.

The hugely talented Cassissi should be starting onballer next year not just an average tagger.

This could potentially be a good thing... It might put a few blokes back in the right place and give them an incentive to work harder throughout the year instead of expecting it all to come naturally to them; and in addition, we might not be peaking as a team in February.

Then again, if all the kicks up the ass the players have been given in the last few years haven't worked, there's not much reason to suspect this will have any effect.

exactly, thats why clubs have a pre-season so they can get fit or fitter.

maybe the best thing for the players might have been to get away from it all, unwind and not think about footy in any way for a few weeks

spose only time will tell

That's a ********in ******** comment! The players are paid, full time proffessional athletes and should have enough discipline to keep in shape in the off season.

Stevens is paid 500k a year and for him to come back overweight is a digrace! Whitnall is more understandable cause he has always been a fat ********!

As it stands these players will be playing catch up and that is the last thing the club needs, we're already the worst team in the league.

From what I have heard, that seems to be Pagan's style. On one hand you expect the players should be big enough to handle a spray. On the other hand if you want results from people maybe you should approach it a different way.

I don't think we should get too worried about whatever was said, Pagan is known to tell it like it is. I'd be dissapointed if he wasn't getting angry at our players for not being at peak fitness. Anyway they've got the whole pre-season to train their asses off and get match fit. Having said that; as a potential captain of the club, that's poor form from Stevens.

Come on,... after the season we had they should be allowed to celebrate over the break , let their hair down a bit. Its not as if the premieres will be foaming at the bit to come back for a repeat,................................

bull********.

I can understand how people arent happy about it. From all reports down at catland some of our younger boys spent the summer in the gym beefing up. We also scrapped Mad Monday as the players were so dissapointed in the end ot last year that they didnt want to go and celebrate. This from a team who was 3 seconds away from a Prelim Birth. Now my point is not to go and blow smoke up my own teams @rse just that your team was about 90,000 seconds away from a prelim birth so you think your players would really be knuckling down.

I have heard of other clubs having groups of players that get together during the off season to pump weights, run etc. They would try and get the young kids involved. Anyone heard of such a thing at blue land?

Celebrate what? Coming last, letting our supporters down, being the laughing stock of the afl? What are we still celebrating the wizard cup? There professional sportsmen, they should start acting that way, rather than amatuers like they have been for the last 4 years.

Okay where to start here.

Nick Stevens always comes back after a pre season carrying some extra kgs and running a poor time first up. Did it at Port and did it last year.
Is in better shape thsn last year and ran a better time in the time trial.

Lance aslo ran a better time at time trial than last year.

2005 best and fairest. Kouta 1 Stevens 2 Lance 3.

Lance and Stevens fitter than last year at the same time.

So what is the problem with THOSE 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ?????

Hartlett is a bit of a handful and needs strong discipline. Blackwell and Russell are good young blokes who need time and Blackwell in particular is a lot fitter and than last year and has put on a few kgs.

Elshaugh is usually "bad cop" but does not stop Denis from giving everyone a spray. The media face of Denis and how he really is are poles apart. Intense is an understatement to describe him.

Betts missed a training session last year and was dropped because of it last year (WB game in Darwin from memory) and has not returned in very good shape. I will concede that one.

Good call. Too early yet.

Sorry Setanta, I was being ironic. The players know if they have done the wrong thing iin the off season, and rather than feeling depressed about the situation carlton is in, they should feel ashamed at their lack of redress. Its easy to give up when you're down, the true test of a mans mettle is not found in victory but in adversary.

Ever heard of sarcasm? :p
