Is there a chance that one of our rookies will be upgraded this year, to be tried B4 the seasons end?
We have an open spot, does our tight financial position get eased towrds the seasons end, to facilitate this? and who would you upgrade - Parker or Hazell?

Parker should have been upgraded in the summer instead of Skipworth retaining his place on the list.

We lack key defenders and fullback types, but instead of giving Aidan a shot we handed yet another chance to an abysmal midfield player who was never going to cut it or get much game time at this level - we would've been better off redrafting Koster or Sampson

That was an amazing decision not to upgrade Parker, but to give a go instead to yet another Gallagher, Shirley type who won't cut the mustard, and can't have a major impact.

As you say, a key defender would have been a far more logical option.

Perhaps it was a decsion on list balance versus who deserved the spot more. Chances were that Parker would have spent the majority of this year in SANFL anyway honing his skills anyway. So is it better as a listed player or Rookie player - probably doesn't make much difference.
But we were short of midfielders, so Skippys elevation can be explained, but not justified.

We were short?

Ricciuto, McLeod, Goodwin, Stenglein, Burton, Bode, Ladhams, Gallagher, Doughty, Schuback, Reilly, Shirley, Johncock........ Skipworth.

We had plenty of midfield depth. As far as key defenders go we've been having to play Perrie at CHB and the ever honest but ever mediocre Nathan Bassett at FB while Kenny Mac is played as a CHF.

Fair point.
My answer would be given we have 14 midfielders in that list, do we need to draft any midfielders this draft, or are we happy with that lot?.

Think the answer is that there is and was a lot of ? marks over some of those players, and a good midfield rotation group is about 10 in a game.

As for KPP, well the injury curse has hit them. Krueger looked a chance PS, Perrie was travelling well, we didn't expect Biglands to get suspended, and thought M.Stevens to stand up for the season.

i was very impressed with stenglein last night.

im sure the eagles would love to add him to our midfield. what do u think your club would want for him? i think a pick around the 20's would be fair.

Agree totally dyertribe.

It's decisions like this one that make me want to bang my head against the desk, repeatedly. I often feel like we deliberately play with one arm behind our back; terrible match-ups with our player giving away weight/height/experience/class - sometimes all four at once, the stupid man-on-man "strategy" we employ for opposition kick-outs, the way we play mediocre players in their mid-twenties when we have talented, younger players risking injury in the SANFL, our wonderful method of trading where we aim to get rid of every nasty top 50 draft pick...

They would probably want more than you are willing to give. The fact that AFC see him as the next captain might just give you the idea that they would want a lot in return for him.

You might be right, but can't see a tagger as the captain of the AFC? - get him to the HB line.

Who is up for grabs - absolutely everyone.

If the price is right, the trade should be done.
The real question is what are you prepared to accept in return?

e.g Burton - nothing less than a first rounder, low second rounder?....

As for who we want, let's start with a new coaching panel.

I don't have a problem with Burton being traded, just that to receive lets say pick 14-16 for him ( which I think would also need to include another sweetner), we are getting an unknown draft selection for a player we know can play good at AFL?

My stated position has always been to do trades, with our better players, for top 10 selections only, therefore minimising the risk of getting a dud. There's a stronger risk factor on any draft pick after pick 10, which I would not be prepared to give Burton up for.

Burton has a zest for life.

He could be that goalkicking forward player to support Watts.

Not that our coaching panel notice that, all those goals in 2002 were just flukes obviously.

Back on topic.
How would this scenario be:

Finish bottom, pickup Cameron Wood (ruckmen) plus a 2nd pick 2-4 (midfielder), plus pickup Cooney in the PS draft, plus father/son?
Plus any trades we undertake.

I know its a pipedream, and will not happen, but gee couldn't that change our fortunes in a hurry?

I've got to say that I wandered down to watch Box Hill v Werribee last quarter on Saturday.

Cooney stands out with that hairstyle, but he struck me as a lazy footballer. (First time I've seen him in the flesh). No chasing, half-hearted leads, no second efforts. Unless he ran himself ragged in the first 3 quarters and was spent by the time I got there, I wasn't impressed. Last thing we need right now is laziness.

Stengline needs to be given the challange between now and the end of the season to become a quality midfielder. His best attribute are clearances and to stop another quality midfielder, now he needs to step up and help roo out. not just rest on his loral’s

IMO the midfielders that should be kept on the list for next season are:bode, begley, burton, edwards, galleger, goodwin, johncock, ladhams, massie, mattener, mcleod, reilly, ricciuto, schuback, stengline, torney, welsh

that is 15 players and if the AFC can pick up 4 maybe 5 more in and under players mark Bickley, Kane Johnson types we should be right.

having a squad of 20 players capable of mixing it with any midfield in the comp.

Am I the only one who thinks Stenglein should not be in our midfield??

1. He's not quick - need pacy, or at least quick midfielders.
2. He has slow disposal in tight.
3. He tends to kick a lot of one step, off balance, and gives our forward no access to clean ball.
4. He's king of clearances because as a tagger, his opponent is trying to lose him, so we make him our tapping target! - Doesnt mean he's an excellent reader of our taps.

Love his never say die attitude, clean hands, and he's a vital part of the team fabric - but not in the midfield please.
