Can anyone tell me why up until this year the AFL teams always wore white shorts in away matches but this year they seem to be mixing what they wear. Teams seem to be wearing coloured or white no matter if it is a home or away match.

My understanding of the new rule is this.

If the away side has white in their colours then they wear white shorts.

If the away side does not have white in their colours but the home side does then the home side wears white shorts.

If neither team has white in their colours then the away side wears white shorts.

An example is last week. North v Brisbane.
Brisbane was the away side but does not have white in their colours. North does, so North wore the white shorts.

This weekend. Carlton v Adelaide. Adelaide is the away side but as we don't have white in our strip & Carlton do then Carlton will wear the white shorts.

I hope that explains it for you.

Isn't it a stupid rule change.

North, Geelong and Collingwood will hardly ever wear Blue/Black shorts again. While side like Richmond, Hawthorn, Essendon, Brisbane and Melbourne will always wear their traditional home shorts.

I don't know about you, but I prefer my own team in Darker shorts, they don't look so fat. I guess this week Geelong will be in the white while Brisbane are in their Maroon despite the fact it is a Geelong home game.

I think it's a great rule.

Thats because The Crows get wear the blue shorts more often. Now all we have to do is get rid of the away jumper!

Gocatsgo I do agree with you though. White shorts don't look as good as dark shorts & it does effect those clubs like Geelong with white in their strip.

CHANGE FOR THE SAKE OF CHANGE!!!!!!

They just wont leave the game alone, they have nearly ****ed it completely, thanks to the AFL Commission.

Who is Wayne Jackson talking to? when he says "roll over honny"

I don't know how you could say that. I thought Neagle, Ducky & Budgie looked really cute in their red shorts, NOT.
My God can you imagine what Rioli, Moorcroft, Boris just to name a few would look like, they looked bad enough in white, we should always be allowed to wear black.

It is another ridiculous decision purely based on television.

We have our new 'hot cross bun' jumper that is worn as our home jumper and that is inevitably worn with white shorts.

I can only remember 4 or 5 games this year wearing black shorts which is disgraceful.

We should just go back to the days of the away team wearing white shorts at ALL times.

And to bomber fans,

I quite like the St Kilda shorts that your side wore for the Ansett Cup final.

I realise that your club would love to mirror the success of our successful team.
