I saw the enormous thread written by Sydneyfan. Syd ask her out. As a single folk, I ask out every good looking girl I see. Get shot down a lot, but it doesn't matter. Most of them already have boyfriends and so forth. On the positive side, a lot of them say yes. Now let me tell you about my most recent shoot down.

My car is in the shop and I am driving this horridly geeky 4-door Ford Escort. At least it is a Ford. So, I am at the grocery store and making pretty good time flirting with this girl in the check out line. We walk out to the lot. Coincidentally, she is parked by me. We get out to our cars and I ask her out. I thought it was a sure thing. She says no, and doesn't further offer the usual, "I am in a relationship right now." Just plain no.

As she's driving off, I am standing there perplexed. As I said, I thought I had this one in the bag. I turned to my car.....my car.
Now I am shouting after her departing vehicle:

"No! This isn't my car! I don't drive a four-door Escort!" :D

It was a good time. Doesn't bother me at all. In fact, my friends often call to hear the latest stories. Success or failure. It doesn't matter. It's all a good time. Like artillery fire. You may have to shell an entire grid, but your'e going to hit something. Syd, ask her my friend. Peace

Actually in all seriousness, I have HEAPS more personality than looks. I got SOME looks, but I'm not a stunner. Guys like me for WHO I am and I love that. :D Everyone says I'm really pretty but you're all full of it.

Having discussed this with American wife over the past couple of years, have discovered that American women apparently (in general) appreciate being asked out, even if they're not interested, and have to turn you down.

Australian women are actually very much disgusted to be asked out by a man, unless if they find they are interested in that man.

Very much a generalisation, but quite a real theme.

Sorry Hawkfan, you caught me unawares. Do I care about anything more than looks? No.

Personality is for your dog and your guy friends.

I'm not looking for a relationship. If that happens - fiine. That can come at a later time, however. Now, while I still have youth coursing through my veins, I am looking for something to do on Saturday night. Finding a life companion is low on my list of things to do....right above worrying over the Hawk 2002 season. ;)

Someday I will be an old geezer rocking in a chair and thinking about times passed. Hopefully at that moment I'll have a woman whom I love for her heart and ghost. As I am thinking back to 2001, she may ask me what I am smiling about. "Nothin' Dear." :)

Good to see a man who's not afraid to try! Good stuff, Mooster7. A few years back when I was younger and out on the turps at some nightclub I had the habit of always going up to the one table full of attractive girls and slurring Da you wanna dance?, if one girl would say No, I'd pathetically smile at the other girls and leave with my tail between legs amid a gaggle of talk and laughter from the girls just departed. It didn't work once! ;)

The only courage I ever seem to muster is Dutch Courage! :)

I'll vouch for that. It's very disappointing to me when I think I've made "friends" with someone and it turns out all they're interested in is getting into my pants. It makes me very cautious about talking to anyone new in case they have ulterior motives.

nuh-uh ... the first thing a bloke wants ... is reciprocal interest.

And, yes, that is probably ego-driven in a sense. The part which ISN'T ego-driven, is never admitted to. And the non-admittance is ego-driven.
