Usually most NRL teams will only recruit 2 or 3 new young players each year, and with popularity increasing throughout the country, is it time to introduce a Draft? would increase the chances of players outside NSW/QLD finding a spot on a team's list.

2 or 3 rounds would suit perfectly, possibly even a 3 round draft, with a minimum of each team picking up to rookies, the 3rd they have the option to pass.

I bring this up as although i am a great AFL fan, i love all sport, and i want the best for all sport in Australia.

Don't think so.

The NRL is huge on the concept of 'Local talent becomes Local Heroes'.

Spotting young talent at it's core and recruiting it is part of what makes the NRL so fantastic IMO. I might be biased in saying that because the Storm have the best recruitment coach in Peter O'Sullivan. ;)

No. I think the draft should be removed from the AFL as well.
A properly policed salary cap evens things enough, without forcing teams to the bottom like the draft does.

No, because the AFL actually is a national competition, it DOES need a draft.

The ARL introduced a draft and it didn't work at all. Some players just sat it out and were picked up by the team they wanted to play for. It's not as cut throat as the AFL - the list management isn't nearly as strict. I mean some players just change teams mid-season. Imagine if that happened in the AFL?

could you clarify that it was ruled illegal in its 2nd season.

It was a messed up draft anyway.

I'm not sure about that but it was canned very early on. By memory i think it had something to do with Terry Hill. He refused to play for the team who drafted him and just walked to another club. The draft doesn't work with the current NRL rules.

The current NRL system creates a more even comp than the AFL.

In rugby league you can play for the juniors in your area, play for your local NRL club, play for your state and play for your country. Great system.

How come Sth Sydney keep struggling after being brought back into the comp for instance.

The same clubs are always down near the bottom in the NRL.

I think it'd be ideal if they did have one, but what does need to be done is to extend the anti-tampering deadline until after the season finishes.
IIRC the anti-tampering dedline has been, or will be, scrapped.
