And you're an expert in TAC Cup footy are you? Give us your top ten then, or is T Cloke the only one you've even heard of?

ive seen a oversized bully, who is a poor kick and although aggresive isnt quick or agile. im not saying he is a poor player, but there is no way he is worth a top10 pick. thats not just my opinion, every draft 'expert' sees it roughly the same. weaver, wiseby and goalden hawk. weaver i think said pick in the 30's is about right.

MM is one of the worst coaches at judging potential draft talent. he basically ruined the eagles list in the last 4yrs he spent at the club. hence we had no talls and had to draft about 8 in 3yrs.

Is there any time limit on this rule? For example say, Joe Loser's dad played for Claremont in 1987 and 88, do the games Loser senior played count in those years count even though the Weagles were already in existence and Loser Snr wasn't good enough to play for them?
yes there is a time limit on the rule. but while the rule is in effect, all wafl games are counted. so if claremont champion senior played 145 games for claremont in 1978-86, then quit to have a brood of little champions, then came back as a flukey old vet and played his last game (totalling 151) in 1992, then his sons are elidgible F/S for the eagles.

at west coast, the time limit for taking WAFL F/Ss is 20 years. meaning that the last WAFL father/son the eagles take can will be in 2007.

it has been noticed, for example, that mitch mortons 2 amazingly talented little brothers are aged 15 and 13 at the moment. meaning the next one is eligible to be an eagles F/S, but the one after is not, as he wont be able to nominate for the draft until 2008

What i want to know is if once a player has been chosen by a club to be taken under f/s, can that player refuse and go into the draft as normal and take his chance of being picked up by another club?
Yes, the player has final say on it, similarly to how if they are eligible at more than one club they can pick which club.

Oddly enough, the Eagles last F/S pick (Ben Cousins) would not be eligible for West Coast under the current regime as his father played at Perth which is a Freo-aligned club. The split up of clubs in WA is a fairly recent thing IIRC, as I believe Campbell Brown was eligible at West Coast and Mal played his WAFL games for South Freo.

Actually I don't think Ashley McIntosh (the Eagles only other F/S) would be eligible these days either as the criteria had to do with VFL games in those days (think it was 50 VFL + 100 WAFL games or the other way around)

That would be a little harsh wouldn't it? Say Joe was 30 at the end of the 1986 season and had played 138 games for Claremont. He is not picked up by the Eagles because of his age - is it not reasonable that the 19 games he played over 1987 and 1988 count? Otherwise it would have required the Eagles to be drafting old players onto the list that might have been selected had they been young enough. Given the Eagles original list was only 35 that would have been ridiculous.

(Incidentally, I believe the 20 cut off for WAFL F/S is too short, as any player who played enough games at the Eagles would likely have been too young to have kids old enough by 2008. I reckon the WAFL/SANFL rule should run for 25 years instead)

Hehe! I was wondering where he was from being a Wet Toast supporter and all!!

Ten bucks say's he's never even seen the Eastern Ranges play, let alone be qualified enough to make a call on T-Clo.

That said, Malthouse is drunk if he thinks Travis is a top ten prospect. The Wiz said his stocks probably would have lifted with a strong finish after some injuries and probably slipped into the top 20. Eitherway, it's academic.

Of course Malthouse and the Crows' recruiting manager are going to talk Travis Cloke into the first round. It helps their respective positions (ie. MM has new star, Crows hard done by with no F&S). It's about as surprising as Tiger supporters calling Travis a dud, despite his club throwing the kitchen sink at him!

Anyway, the only kid I've seen that would have been a top ten pick under the F&S rule is Gary Ablett [edit] & Jon Brown, out of dozens of F&S selections, so it's not like it's the world's most unbalanced system and the benefits to a clubs' history, far outweighs any minor inequities.

Jesse W impressed me greatly in the TAC GF. He is SILK. Definite top pick for mine, but his size is a concern, which would probably have seen him drop into the early teens. But again, academic!!

Q, Malcolm Gregory Brown played 166 games for East Perth between 1965 and 1973.
I agree the WAFL/SANFL rule should be 25 years.
