No different to the rule that Collingwood never will have to play a game at Geelong’s home ground. At least Geelong has played Fogs at Marvel in recent years
Can’t remember the last time we hotted Geelong? The AFL will protect Bailey Smith.

You take away any one of the following and Geelong's 'dynasties' tumble
-AFL turning a blind eye to the drug cheating in you 07-11 dynasty.
-AFL turning a blind eye to payer payments in kind outside the salary cap.
-By far the biggest home ground advantage in the comp, with a home ground who's asymmetrical proportions would not be acceptable for any other club in the AFL or any other league.
-Massive tax payer subsidies.
Ahh typical grin post. Always good for a laugh

point 3 is my favourite.

Yeah our ‘dynasty reliance’ on our home ground was so great that we only managed a 72-17 record away from it between 2007-2011.
An 81 per cent record. For context, that win percentage would have gotten us into exactly the same home and away spot we finished in every season. Except 2010. It actually would have gotten us into first.

God only knows how we’d have coped without Kardinia Park.
We would have fallen over completely I’m sure.

You never really got that the vast majority my posts about Geelong are very obviously tongue in cheek to get a rise. That I usually do maybe evidence that there's some truth in my jest.

Funniest thing is…. most Geelong fans were utterly indifferent to these rules until Richmond supporters started cracking the sooks about them.

This Geelong fan hates the majority of those rule changes (as none of them were needed) and couldn't give two shits what any other supporters think of them.

The Stand rule could have been implemented by the CEO of Hawthorn, or Richmond, or West Coast. It's still a stupid rule and hasn't brought in any improvement whatsoever.

It’s like you enjoy people making fun of you.

If you think the Richmond dynasty was tumbled over by a couple of small rule changes, then you are implying and making a strong case that Richmond side was not adaptable or as talented as it may have appeared at the time.

More like knocking over a stack of cards as opposed a brick wall
Many things like tumbling over, have happened whatever you want to call it. The major fact with rule changes specified by another poster, is not necessarily dynasty fall overs, it is making things that were much harder in the past game, and the contact, eased for those excessive player numbers needed to fill 18 elite clubs.

And some weren't quite elite players, diluted by new clubs added. Why?
Because Western Footscray-West Sydney Bulldogs and the North Melbourne Gold Coast Roos would not move.

I say this, if we had a 14 or 16 league set up many many players in the pool for 18 clubs or 19 clubs would not get a game in a 16 club set up, and they would be hard pressed to get a look in, if we had a real national competition of 12 clubs. They would not make the grade full stop, yet are expected too with 18 clubs.

That is where our game AFL not VFA, no, AFL, is now a two division league, and the AFL want to have a ten team final???

It means they will be definitely adding a 20th team, which will have the rules people going for broke!
Forever changing the goal posts. So the umpires can control games more than they do now.

And umpires are meant to adjudicate, see properly and not be heard or noticed . Like the stupid goal photo check. Why do we have goal umpires , because they can't see properly???

And we wonder why playing staff, the young fellas, now have extremes of pressure on them and break downs.

Now its to become nineteen. But before that when the Lions became Brisbane and South became Sydney we had two clubs added to interstate, should have been left at that!
One in NSW and one in QLD.
So to add to that, was stupid and the money spent by the AFL to prop up new clubs which was set up simply to get more millions out of TV rights televising , actually screwed up the talent pool.

As well as have money flowing to build up two new clubs , that were to make more money for TV rights incomes??
Does it pan out economically? Or just break even?

Think about that, if it broke even, why'd they even start new clubs at all.

And in starting them and previous planning for them, they had to change the game by easing off and crucifying real hard football brained players, and introduced year after year petty nonsensical free kicks as grey as looking into the deepest ocean blind unfairness, and we are lost in the dictatorship of this AFL, and games cost a fortune and goods inside grounds break many a fans wallet in half , they are vultures.,

The mass rule fiddling made it easier for those who didn't and don't quite stand up to the level you used to have to be, to get into 16 teams. Let alone a 12 team competition.

So it is simply manipulating for the most money they think they can make,
Those corporates running our sport.

Also infiltrated with political correctness over kill.
Bring out the Snoop Dog for GF half time show or Meat Loaf (RIP)
Where were Australian talent because there is stacks of it in OZ.

You see even the entertainment for a GF is decided by those AFL people
who have no idea of what footy is REALLY about!

Stand is a great rule. Watch any match from like 2015 to 2022 its insane how much the person on the "mark" takes the piss and runs wild in a 20 sqm box while jumping and spinning and waving their arms like a bird. Ridiculous. Thankyou to whoever brought in stand you have done a great service to AFL
I agree. Stand rule basically just made the game look a little more like it did in the 90s. Just a little.

Google AI - "the (Stand) rule requires the player on the mark to stand still and not move from their position, which prevents them from crowding the mark, cutting off the corridor, or blocking a handball receive, and forces them to give the kicking player a clean avenue to goal. This aims to reduce congestion and "dead time" in the game". Commendable rule IMO

AI actually got a summary correct? shiver

How could it reduce dead time if it's preventing players from playing on? If anything it's adding more of this apparently dreaded "dead time".

The theory (and I did not make this up) was that players ignoring the mark point or moving off line was forcing umpires to intervene and halting play

You couldn't get a better example of making change for its own sake, where it absolutely wasn't needed, and providing zero benefit to the game. If umpires (and administrators) had common sense, they'd let the players work it out. Their job is to adjudicate decisions, not to decide how players should play.

Stand belongs in something else, not footy. It's Auskick for Adults, but even worse.
