I was just thinking maybe Bevan could have been over there for the tests as well after reading an article yesterday.

Bevan would have been very useful, with him bowling his left arm wrist spinners and the wicket would have suited his batting.

The argument is always "he doesn't play pace well", but against India, who would have threatened him? Bevan is rarely troubled by spinners. his own bowling would have made him handy too.

But once again, as is the problem at the moment, who do you drop? Ponting and M.Waugh have been less than convincing on this tour, but both are coming off good summers so they wouldn't have been in doubt when the tour started. Langer has been fairly solid, and even though I'm not that confident in him long-term, he is safe for now.

Unfortunately Bevan hasn't been given an ideal chance to prove his 4-day form, as his international duties have tied him up somewhat.

It's pretty much like Darky said, Bevan could probably have done a good job in India but then do you drop him when you go to England even if he's had a good series knowing that the pacemen will sort him out.It wouldn't be good for the continuity of the team or the bloke that made way for him in the India series who in all porobability would come straight back in for the Ashes.

He would have been very handy but once again who to drop. When the tour started everyones position was pretty safe and when the series is over and we gear up for England im sure that everyone in this series barring Kasprowics will go to England.

nah, Bevan's had his chance. Go for someone younger like Katich, Love, Hussey, etc,.

Love is injured at the moment, and the fact he didn't get to play in the last few matches of the Sheffield Shield competition, it will probably mean he doesn't come into contention
for an Ashes spot either.

Bevan's only played in the subcontinent for 4 tests.

3 v Pakistan in 1994/95
1 v India in 1996/97

so they're pretty irrelevant to the argument.

WCE2000, I'm not sure they are irrelevant to the argument. If Bevan failed on those tours, then they are added to the list of failures for him at test level. I think the original argument was wether he should have been included on the tour for the tests. The answer is a definite NO!! He has no proven track record against any type of attack in test cricket, I mean if you wanted someone who could play spinners and bowl a bit, we should have recalled Bob bloody Simpson
