Should Damien Drum be given the sack?

The freo board are having a meeting tommorow to discuss his future. Personally I think he should be given some dignity and let coach for the remainder of the year and then decide on his future. I have never really seen the benefits of sacking a coach midseason, just doesn't make sense!

Freo should wait one more week before sacking him, or maybe don't sack him, but whatever they do, don't get rid of him this week!!

It would not be a particularly wise move to dispense with his services at this point for the following reasons.

1. No club to my knowledge ever improves except for the first game or so after the sacking (given the Dockers current status I guess they can only go up anyway).

2. It totally de-stabilies the club in relation to the remainder of the season.

3. By giving Damien Drum until the end of the season it gives the club time to search for a suitable replacement. I've said in a previous post I think they need a coach in the mould of John Kennedy Snr.

4. To be blunt who would want to come in as caretaker coach for the remainder of the season, certainly not any top ranking coach worth his salt, as he would need to have time to put his own coaching staff together, not to mention a change in the playing list, coaching strategies for the next season(pre-season training). This season is buggered for them.

IMO, they can do no worse at this stage, but they can certainly prepare themselves for a better season next year.

As a Freo member Drummie should not get the sack. The players have admitted that they are not listening to him so its them that need to take a good look at themselves.

Its not Damian's fault if the players appear to be more interested in surfing and drinking than playing football.

As a coach, it is up to you to coach in such a way that the players have to listen and react. They shouldn't sack him now, but they need a coach that they couldn't possibly not listen too. If you can't get them to listen, then theres no way you will get them to do anything.

I was sitting there watching West Wing at 10:30 to 11:30 and half way through the show (on Ch 9 i might add) it comes rolling across the bottom of the screen saying that The board members of the Fremantle Dockers have decided to stay with Damian Drum for the rest of the season.

So there you have it.
