Seen at least 2 or 3 people on the main boards query why Kirk isn't the sole appointed captain of the club. Tend to agree with them really. I'm all for a leadership 'group', but that doesn't mean you can't have a captain. Many would agree he is the most fearless, inspirational player/leader in the comp - so why not give him the accolade.

Thoughts?

Choco Williams has a giant man crush on him. Not only was he signing Brett Kirk's praises before the Dreamteam game saying what a great leader he is but here is a quote he made yesterday.

Williams couldn't help but marvel at the efforts of Sydney's inspirational midfielder Brett Kirk, who helped turn the game when the Swans seemed buried.

"His tackling and his hard-ball gets and his clearance numbers are just outstanding,'' Williams said.

"To have a leader like that to drag them over the line and do what he does. Roosy would be disappointed that he's 30 or 31 and that he can't be there forever.''

I only like the 3 captain thing because Craig's one of them

I think it would be better if Brett was captain and Craig was vice-captain :)
I'd be up for that. I'd even go as far as saying we could sustain multiple vice-captains if they wanted to incorporate everyone in the leadership group.

I'd much prefer Kirk as sole captain of the bloods with Bolts as VC. We're blessed with leaders when you think about it. Any one of these blokes would make a great captain:

Kirk
Mick
Hall
Leo
Craig
Jude - Unless he can get some consistency into his game would be more of a Vandenberg or K. Johnson style captain.

Minus Leo. No offence to him, but I just don't think he has captaincy material.

yep

The co-captain system was brought in because after maxfield left there were a number of candidates but no standout.

Kirk is now obviously a standout

Tough to gid rid of C Bolts though, Barry a bit easier

What about k.jack for the future Rancid
probly haven't seen enough of him yet to seee any leadership qualities, but he's a livewire, he seems to be very aware of his teammates, always encouraging and acknowledging
at this stage i'd have bird ahead of him, and i guess i can't really explainj why
bird just looks like captaincy material
but if it turns out jack's the go in future, i can live with it, bedford
suddenly we seem to have a whole bunch of real good kids, hard goers all

I think that Kirk has stepped up more this year and should definately be the sole captain of the Swannies.Apparantly his leadership skills were outstanding in the Allies squad and many a compliment was paid.
I still prefer the one captain system and BRETT Kirk would definately be the man for the job.

Ithink the original concept of co- captains was a good one. One in defence, one for midfield, and one for the forwards. When one area of the team was not performing,it would be up to respective captains,to gee up
the players in their respective parts of the field. Kirky has extended his area
numerous times, and hopefully inspires his other co-captains.
On another note,he could be worth a punt for a place in the Brownlows!!

This is a pointless thread that i am sure has been raised before.Everybody that appreciates this great man would all state the obvious answer.Kirk not being the one and only captain of the Swans is probably the only real bad decision Roos has made in regards to what represents the team from a leadership perspective. It is in no means detrimental to the team because all 3 captains are great leaders but Brett Kirk is in Paul Kellys class as a captain and deserves the honour on his own.Weather religious or not all Swans supporters should get down on their knees and pray to their maker that Kirk can play on for at least another couple of years. That being the case the least Roos could do is hand the reigns over to him by himself and reward him for what has been a truly inspirational career of a sportsman who has given his club and its supporters every ounce of his heart and soul and sent me to work on a Monday morning more often than not with a smile on my face due to his heroic feats.Didnt mean to demean the thread.Thats my rant and now i am off to St Paricks to say a few Hail Marys.:thumbsu:
