Should the AFL award bonus points like the Super 12???

I think the AFL should start looking at bonus points, similar to the Super 12 Competition.

Say a losing bonus point for getting within 15 points of the oppositions
And a goalscoring bonus for kicking 20 goals.

ie, If Essendon defeated Geelong 22.12 (144) - 20.14 (134)
then Essendon would get 5 points, and Geelong 2 points.

This would encourage teams to play a more exciting brand of football, in order to get the extra bonus point.

That was the reasoning the Super 12 had. For teams to get the 4 try bonus, they would have to play more exciting and attacking brand of football.

I'd be all for it...if all matches were played in identical conditions. Until then, no.

Unlike percentage, rewarding high scoring favours teams that play in better conditions.

No, it makes things too artificial.

Australian rules is very dependant on the conditions, the wind can have a big influence on a game , much more so that Rugby where the ball is carried a lot more, rather than kicked with precision up the field.

The rain will also reduce scoring and change the possibilities of gaining these extra point.

Similarly you could never give points for winning quarters, a strong wind should ensure that the 2 sides win 2 quarters each. The better teams minimise the impact of kicking into the wind.

well the fair majority of people dilike it at the moment.

Not tonight, maybe tomorrow, i'll think of something to refine it to make it fairer.

Would people thinks its allright if it became fairer, or do you think we should just keep 4/2/0 system.
