Trying to ignore our own recent performance in a practice game, I think it’s worthwhile to discuss the broader question: Should the AFL have practice/pre-season games?

What is the main purpose that they serve?

What do other team sports leagues around the world do regarding practice/pre-season games?

How do we justify potential serious injury to players?

If coaches/teams are deliberately concealing their tactics, what’s the point?

Does it mean playing more matches for four points?

I lean towards relegating them to the past. In my opinion, the only real positive for having them is the chance to see an AFLish match at Arden Street.

I honestly don't care - but I don't think it makes much difference. Teams will still need match fitness in this type of sport, they'll play more intra clubs and unofficial matches.

I wouldn't worry too much about tactics - I suspect for most teams it's just a chance to blow out the cobwebs.
