2nds Should the Crows reserves be in the SANFL?

Why would they complain , if you haven't worked it out they want you in the VFL, what planet have you been living on?

Most of those people are so pre-occupied by their hatred of the Crows that they haven't thought enough about the long-term implications.

Once the VFL starts erroding into the SANFL's market (which it will) they'll suddenly start demanding that the SANFL do something about it, but the problem is that once the reserves sides leave the SANFL as does the control that the league has over them.

Be careful what you wish you.

If the crows aren't in the SANFL then the SANFL cant dictate restrictions as to where top up players are sourced.

The crows would be free to tempt away some of the SANFL's best players with the hopes that it could lead to an AFL contract.

That depends on what restrictions the VFL puts on them too.

You've hit the nail on the head.

Having the reserves teams in the SANFL then allows the SANFL to maintain control over them. If the Crows and Port leave the SANFL, the SANFL then gives up it's ability to control both clubs.

The Crows can then go chasing additional sponsors, top up players etc which will come at the detriment of the SANFL clubs.

I am sure that the SANFL doesn't want them in the league, but knows that it's in the best interests of the league to keep them restricted within the SANFL comp rather than have them bringing VFL football into SA which would then be competing in SA against the SANFL.

Adelaide supporters don't go to their SANFL games, so why would they go to watch them play a VFL side every 2 weeks?

The SANFL are happy with them being in the SANFL, Adelaide are happy about it. The only sticking point is over the number of listed players.

A national Reserves competition won't happen for a long time, if at all.

No, but that's because most people have stayed loyal to their local SANFL club. Don't underestimate though how many people use their AFC memberships to get in for free to see their local SANFL club against them though.

Once they are no longer bound by their SANFL loyality and the Crows have a home ground you will see more people jumping onboard to support the Crows especially if the games remain free.

Wouldn't Crows reserves games be played before Crows AFL games?

Given usage of the change rooms etc it's not very convenient for curtain raiser games anymore. They would have to start a few hours before making it pretty well unfeasible. Geelong even stopped doing them this year.

There are heaps of changerooms

There are four unused cricket ones in the members stand for starters

The SANFL finals manage to play double headers

Yes the SANFL does, but there AFL has far more stringent rules in regards to ground usage.

Typically the ground needs to be available at least an hour before the AFL game for both teams to warm up on and curtain raiser games are only permitted if weather permits.

So while it would be great, there's still some issues that would need to be addressed for us to be able to do it.
