Bumping up the Oscar compo from band 2 to 1, and letting us grab our NGAs and Banfield F/S without costing us picks is the best we'll get I think.

Pick 1 Dyson Sharp
Pick 2 traded to GC for ~8, ~13 and F2
Hawks 1st traded to Collingwood for Darcy Cameron
Pick ~8 draft best available
Pick ~13 traded to Carlton for Cripps
WCE 2nd and Hawks 2nd dangled for experienced players (or draft best available)
Evans/Walley/Banfield NGA/FS
throw up team america GIF

Yeah not a fan either but that pick will blow out if GC make it past the first week of finals and with all the matched bids.

Dont think Carlton come to the table if its not a first rounder imo.
Cripps body is cooked. Do you think the huge increase in travel will help this ?

If we're chasing mature age ready to plug and play I think Matt Crouch is the lowest hanging piece of fruit that still has something to offer.

Before you even factor in any assistance. Using the new draft DVI and looking at the pick slides for our 2nd rounder, we should get a first rounder to compensate.

Since we've been at the bottom. Using the new DVI system
2022 - Pick 20 to 23 = 104 points loss
2023 - Pick 19 to 30 = 342 points loss
2024 - Pick 20 to 30 = 303 points loss
2025 - Pick 19 to approx 28 = 291 point loss
total loss = 1040 points which is equal to pick 14

I have, looks fine to me, it's the entire team that's making him look shit.

Just 12 months ago, he won the Brownlow with the most votes ever.
i guess were seeing different things. agree to disagree.
imo hope we dont pursue, not at a high cost anyway.

I hope we do get something in the way of Mid R1 or end of R1 pick made available with conditions that it is traded for a player.

I can't recall who, but I thought there was talk from the AFL that it made the "North" compensation less valuable because of this condition.

Also it would be good to go back to the old set of rules, no secrets of who gets what and when pending their likability within AFL House, something akin to average of three wins over five seasons, and double dip extending to seven or eight years.

IMO

The AFL will gift wrap us pick 2 compo for OA.

They will maybe give a F2 and F3 for next year that we have the "use it or you might lose it" clause attached.

They won't give us anything as a direct draft pick in this draft BC of the stink it will cause.

but, if we are smart, we will sell the idea to the AFL handing us assistance this year with no draft compromise by.....giving us free access to (X) number of NGA/FS in this year's and next year's draft. This ensures the draft order isn't compromised, gives us those players with no draft captial spent, and then allows us to use the picks preserved on trades. The only question will be how many players they'll give us a free hit on and whether they'll let us have that for next year too.

This also satisfies the growing narrative you here constantly in Melbourne about how often we have missed on WA tallent like nic Martin and Lawson Humphries when we had them right under our noses.

Now, the spanner in the works would be if Harley doesn't sign on and requests a trade.....then the AFL have a huge problem.

Did we really miss on Martin and Humphries though?

Martin was injured/underperformed when on trial with us and Humphries, by his own admission, wasn't ready.

I agree, but that the narrative. That we had them right under our nose. The Victorian AFL media are like a pack of hyenas circling the kill.

We should push for extra Cat B rookie spots, 2 extra list spots, the ability to match the first 2 NGA players picked in the draft without having to use draft picks and the ability to sign a free agent without our Oscar compo being affected.

The list spots are pretty straight forward.

Matching the first 2 NGA. For instance Team A calls out Koby Evans at pick 24 we can then either choose not to match so he goes to Team A like normal or we can match but we just get him at that pick and pay no points for him. I did think about being able to prelist NGA players but I assume their contracts are based on what round they were drafted.

Signing a free agent would mean a free swing for Starcevich if he wanted to come here. It wouldn't affect Brisbane since they wont get anything for him anyway as a free agent since they are signing Oscar and possibly Draper.

Then we can use Hawks first and our second round pick to trade to GC for Ports pick 8ish.

This way there are no priority picks and the AFL can continue saying they haven't given out priority picks to us but we still get assistance without affecting the already compromised draft.

Hawthorn's pick for Cripps is a perfectly reasonable trade if you are Hawthorn. Just like risking a future pick which was probably going to be anywhere from 10-18 to get TB was worth it if you are Hawthorn. I'm not sure Freo have the cap space or that Cripps fills an area of weakness (they win plenty of clearances with two good rucks, Brayshaw and Serong) but they would be negligent if they didn't enquire.

But we have won 11 games in 4 years. What other rebuilding club would trade out a 29 year old TB (let's be honest he would have won the B&F this year easily) to use the proceeds to trade in another player the same age a year later? The only way a Cripps trade makes sense is if Carlton start putting experienced players with currency in the shop window to accelerate a rebuild and we can horse trade with them.

Currently we have something like 1 and 13. They have nothing. We could have 1 and 2, they could have around 8 or 9 if TDK leaves and 10 if they trade with Sydney. I'm happy to put a pick upgrade on the table if if suits all parties.

Pick 2 in points (which are more like guidelines really, savvy) is equal to exactly 10 + 11. In practice we traded 2(3) for 9 and 14 in 2022. Unless we see a standout 1 and 2 IMO 2 for Cripps and 8-10 is preferable to just Cripps for Hawthorn's pick. I just don't want to see a repeat of last year where we won 5 games and took just pick 16 in the first 30. With two potentially 3 first rounders we need to capitalise.
