Should there be a VAR type review in the lead up to a goal?

Just seeing the supposed siren before mark in the GWS/GC game.

In the A-league there is a review in the lead up play to a goal. If someone in the continuous play is offside, or there's a foul (and maybe other things), then the goal can be cancelled.

From my own team this year I can remember a ball that clearly went out (but wasn't called) against GWS that turned into a mark and goal. Also an important goal that North Melbourne kicked though Joel Hamling was illegally held from being able to tackle the eventual goal kicker.

Is this a next stage of the review system and would you be supportive of it, if it shows conclusively that the goal shouldn't have happened because something happened in the lead up?

There'd be that many goals recalled if they were being fair dinkum in the reviews.

Umpiring has a lot more room for improvement before something like this needs to be brought in.

God, no. VAR, DRS, etc only work if there is an actual line. Trying to adjudicate on every single action during a lead-up (while watching in slow motion) is a recipe for disaster. Refer the NRL Bunker for dozens of examples.

Use reviews purely for unarguable decisions - ie, lines.

The lead up resets once the ball crosses half way or there's a ball up/throw in.
They might be reviewing a couple of minutes of footage in that case. The current system they have is enough although flawed through lack of decent cameras etc.

Game would be super fun if we had to sit for 5 minutes after every goal waiting to be given the all clear. They can barely get it correct now and they only review the actual goal.

Channel 7 might love it though since they could cram tons of extra ads in
