Just putting this out there... should there be an advantage if you finish top two eg 50 points added onto your score as a "home team" advantage, same with 5 and 6. This way there would be a reward for those who worked hard to have a consistant team rather than one that just scraped into the finals. This bonus 50 could go all the way to the prelims and then in the grand final like in the AFL a level playing field...

It didn't bother me as i finised top and still won, but i had a mate finish top in another league and he was beaten by 10 points, just got me thinking.

No it's an interesting idea. Problem with the current system is it's very easy for the 1st or 2nd placed teams to get knocked off by 3rd and 4th and have their series in disarray.

The old final 8 system would arguably be fairer for dreamteam - where 1 played 8, 2 plays 7, 3 v 6 and 4 v5 in first week - but the problem with that was if 7 or 8 won they suddenly had a berth in a prelim.

50 points yeah i like it!

In the old system, 7 or 8 could not go straight through to the prelim by knocking off 1 or 2. But I do agree that the old system would be fairer towards the top teams. The current AFL system doesn't give discerning advantages to those higher up. It's almost as good finishing 4th as it is 1st as it is 8th compared to 5th. That said one competitor in my league finished 5th on percentage and is now out.

Top thread.

I've finished top four (and top two most of the time) in every league I've ever been in (25ish) over the last 9 years in various competitions. Despite this I have only ever won the league twice.

More than once I have gone undefeated in the home and away and not won the league, mostly due to my focus on winning a round overall.

A team can scrap to 5th-8th place before stringing together a few good scores and win the league very easily. Further as stated here 1st and 2nd have no advantage at all over 3rd and 4th.

I think you shouldnt have an advantage, partly because its not hard work, its just picking a team on the net and with some luck you may finish higher then some1 else in the league. The advantage i thought was if its a draw u go through instead of them.

However if you finish first and lose to forth then u do have the second chance and shouldnt of lost anyway. Part of DT is luck with injuries, capt performance and if they get tagged or not etc.

If your bad enough to lose then you deserve it. Hey i was 8th and beat 5th, so maybe im biased :D

There should be No home final advantage.
This should be a poll by the way.

There is an advantage of finishing higher up all ready, that is if there is a draw the higher ranked team wins. And yes there was a draw in our league this week. My friend stuart finished 1st and the 4th team both got 1862
and stuart went through to the prelim.

I agree that the old system would be better suited with 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7. The 2 highest placed losers get a second chance. The 2 highest placed winners move straight through to the prelim. That way there is a bigger advantage of fishing top than 4th. ATM top and 4th are exactly the same except in the unlikely case of a draw.

I was telling my friend the exact same thing the other day. Why not have a 50 point home ground advantage. What it means is people will have important games all year. Instead of saying oh well i can loss this game as i will still make top 4.

the current system is fine, i finished 3rd but was the leading in the points scored and ranking in my league. i would have lost to most of teams in my league including those outside the top 8 last weekend and did lose to 2nd top. had a really bad week.

it's a week by week proposition which keeps it interest no matter how you are going. the DT concept is great, im doing better in SC but DT is way more fun. most people should care more about ranking anyways, it's where the money is.

% is a load of crap should go on points scored in league overall. Rank on that instead of %.

Also on a side note, how about the person who finished on top of the league ladder at the end of the h/a section get 1 bonus trade for being minor premiers.

You can't do anything that would effect the overall scores. What if you are in a really competitive league? Its unfair that guys in crapper leagues that get an extra trade for the season and get to use it to move up the over all rankings.
