So if Hird stays then surely we should be tapping-up the concerned parents of Essendon players and suggesting they need to force releases from their sons' contracts and demand a trade to the Mighty Hawks?

I know it's not popular to want any connection with Essendon on these boards, but I could certainly handle us chasing Martin Gleeson.

What do others think?

There seems to be a growing divide in their playing group between the Hirdites and the disillusioned. I would not want us going anywhere near any of the Hirdites in the even that they do sack him and those players walk. I could be persuaded that it would be worth going for members of the disillusioned in the event that Hird remains in his position and more of them request to be released from their contracts. If someone like Heppell suddenly became available, you'd have to at least give it serious consideration.

Apart from Heppell, who would you really want? Zarharakis? Sure having Carlise or even Hurley might be fun but now we have Frawley we don't need them. Got to think about cap space also....

Kennedy got banished to Sydney for fewer crimes against footballs by foot than Heppell has committed :D

Yes good point.

You would only be wanting to pick someone up who wanted out because the club had failed in their duty of care.

If it was for some other reason it could become unnecessarily complicated with too much baggage remaining attached.

Mate of mine was on the bombers list for a couple of years under Hird. Apparently an arrogant a*sehole that had no regard for the younger players and barely spoke to you if you weren't a favorite of his. Surely if they keep him on as coach there would be a few good players that
Might just want to test a clause in their contract.

This disgrace of a club is slowly imploding. Let em eat their own ... cos they will. The carcass that is left of their squad will eventually deteriorate & this era will become but a sad memory. I'm happy for us to stay away from their black & red stench!

While we're all having a lot of fun at Essendon's expense, can we just stop to consider for a moment what would happen if they were to fold? Face it, we need them around, so that we can hate them. If Essendon were to cease to exist, then what'd be the point? All our future premierships wouldn't be quite so sweet, because we didn't win them at their expense.

Let's all remember, the scum can give us players that we can fix up. Remember Paul "Fish" Salmon? He was an alright bloke.

However, considering their current crop of players would be like considering injecting yourself with a used needle. Could probably do without any of them.

I can't believe the cheek of Essendon saying Port aren't giving them enough for Ryder. I would love him to just say, "exit clause triggered, bitches" and leave them with nothing.
Essendon have had strong legal advice that Paddy's get out clause can not be triggered.

Essendons legal advisors obviously know what they are doing :p

Yep, I hear their legal advice was to declare a bad court thingy*

That will fix it.

I have plenty of hatred that doesn't involve essendon. There is not one essendon supporter I know or have met that would make me feel regret if they were completely destroyed. My only concern would be that they may in turn change their allegience to the hawks. It would cheapen us all.
