Should we be treating 2014 as a development year?

So why are you complaining about older players like Swan, Ball, Lumumba and Toovey not improving?

Your double standards are absolutely ludicrous
Is development only about the very youngest players? If we have developed players to the extent you claim, why do we look likely to slip out of the eight? Surely player development should improve team success. Instead, we are slipping out of final 8 contention.

Josh Thomas just isn't that good. Seed has been injured, but has been more influential than last year. Adams has been fine. Agree on Marley, but you can understand that given his lead up.
But he was better last year! As for Seedsman, he has had little influence compared to previous years that I can see.

I would like to see some improvement in our game plan. If we are developing players we also have to develop a method by which they play together. The game plan, or the ability to execute is lacking. With the list we have, including some of those young guys, we should not be satisfied with just making the eight, even though that is in question. Remember 2010/11 we played some of the best football around. eddy was spitting chips that we lost in the first week of finals last year. if we don't make the eight, or don't win in the first week, we can expect some wholesale changes of players and coaching staff, and the development year won't be an excuse.

Yes. With a more experienced team we would have beaten bulldogs, Adelaide and Gold Coast and would be sitting clear 2nd. We have a lot of young players and they are inconsistent. Next year those games might go our way with more experience to our younger players

Are you related to Luke Mason?

Now we should.

We won’t make the Top 4 and not even close to Challenging for a Flag.

I even Bring in Gault and Karnezis for next week

Again Adams had played three excellent games prior to yesterday and will be a big part of the side long term.

Spot On. Has had good form over the last few weeks.

People Bashing him are going over the top

Are development years those in which we don't achieve much team success?

Nah just its just a lame arse excuse for treading water or going backwards. TBH what noticeable improvement have we seen over the last few years? SFA if you ask me. Kickouts?, Forward entries?, Skills?, Gameplan?

That is an extremely negative way to put it. Developing players and youth is apart of football. Every team goes through developmental years, where yes, there isn't much success but there isn't meant to be. Those 'rebuliding' years we will call them, are there for the younger players to develop and learn the game at the professional level. Some teams development years are quicker then others, see Port. Some take much much much longer, see Melbourne. But at the end of the day, every team goes through them. I would put us in the Port-style of developing years. Obviously we haven't achieved the success they have this season, they are winning while developing young players at the same time. I would say we are doing the same thing.

Between 2012 and now:

Defensive structure undoubtedly.
Two-way running.
Kickouts definitely, but then again we were starting from very, very far in this department.
Developing rucks as well especially in a duo structure.
And you can add individual improvement to important players for our future: Beams, Elliott, Witts, Williams, Frost, Kennedy, Seedsman.

But that wouldn't sit well with your rant now, would it?

View attachment 66470 Some stats that can relate to our development that everyone can discuss

So we're meant to judge the development of our back 6 based on the "last month" of footy only (GC, Carlton, Hawks, WB games)? I'd like to see the full season stats before judging, and all stats that relate to our defense, not a selection made to paint us in a bad light.

Don't have the stats before those games. Saw this on footy classified last night

No definitely not. Development needs to be based over years and years.

I just saw these stats on footy classified and thought it related to our development and would be fun to discuss.
