How is this post still going ?
The answer is in the poll.
Someone has an agenda with repeat posts to keep this thread going.

So that’s it. The poll says it, so we just roll over and forget about it. No discussion about it. Sounds pretty in line with so much Aboriginal history.

been mentioned a few times, and like the idea, rather than place - local indigenous word for magpie.

I feel, Collingwood FC is more than a local place - more like a national team - and magies are everywhere is Aus - like our supporters
But magpies not all the same in every state.
My pies only have mantles on back of neck, I think WA magpies have white all down their backs?
Those look weird to me.
Not sure about the other states.

The OP is asking a question for discussion though. People are just attempting to answer the question that's being asked. It's an indigenous game being played during a time that we celebrate indigenous culture. Not sure why we need to close it

Spot on, the magpie bird has differing plumage from east to west of Australia, some diversity in the magpie bird, like the magpie supporters - a lot of diversity.

But all magpies are black/white (except baby/adolescents, which are more grey/black)

I assume they all have the same warbles/serenades.
I get some wonderful songs from my pies, one can even whinny like a horse.

Im not sure grannie.

We currently have a family of three magpies, the teenage girl is very vocal and confident. If the door is open, she walks straight in, up on the kitchen bench - up for a chat and demanding a feed of mealy worms. A magnificent bird.

What is your perspective of Collingwood wearing an Indigenous jumper?
I like it. More so when it was Leon’s uncle (I think) who designed it - brought a connection to the playing group. Thought this years one looked good.

Why did you ask?

Because you said you didn’t support an Aboriginal version of Collingwood.

I see your point, but I think a name change goes beyond that. It would be like changing the black and white stripes.
Not if we adopted the Wurundjeri word for magpie. I reckon that would be pretty cool.

It's a beaut suggestion, and the case for and against are well made.

If it gets up that's fine by me, if not we can do better in other ways.

Great guernsey this year, got the thumbs up from my boy too. It's 100% Collingwood and unmistakeably indigenous in its message.

The stuff about an inviolate jumper is the sort of irrational thing clubs with no tradition do not understand. Being Collingwood has meant many things, and some of those things change down the years.

Dunno how some past versions would feel about womens teams. Fortunately we've changed some unfortunate things, more work needed. However for me what's non negotiable is wearing black and white, and standing side by side.

We can work out the rest. I definitely support the current mob in charge to work that out.

While that is a beautiful suggestion, I am still resistant. Why is it so important to you? I prefer not to guess and interested to hear from you.

Agree with SR that symbolism is important. Done badly (gestures made to easily) dilutes a culture. Done well it is very powerful. Your suggestion may well be that.

Perhaps adding Wurundjeri after magpie for the indigenous round, or, even the Wurandjeri Magpies, I would more readily get behind.

I don't think the game we play in its format is indigenous .
Current form is derived from many world cultures and inputs.
To single out one would distract from the others.
Collingwood is a footy club that plays AFL.
I don't like any entities trying to piggy back of their success at that.
Lets just play football keep everything else out or you may offend some of our diverse group of supporters which pay money to watch football.
Happy for any cause to hire the MCG and sell tickets on a none AFL match day.
Supporters of that event can attend.
If anyone who is aggrieved by copyright infringement of an idea or concept that they may have rights too I'm sure a legal firm would take on the case.
For a fee.
And just by their actions the CFC have made their choice on the matter.
