St. Kilda did well on getting him in the big race but its just dissapointing how things like that can happen!

silly question .. what did we give up for him ?

Matty Clarke will more than likely retire at seasons end. Hopefully a good 12 months off with help Gardiner recover and get hi m back on track.

I never meant it like that ...

I think Clarke has been a good pick up. Its a shame that his good work at the ruck contest seems to go unrewarded as our mid fielders cant get to those taps on the full ...
yeah he's not that bad but he is just old thats all

Why shouldn't st.kilda chase after the likes of Clarke and Gardiner? It's not like we are paying these guys big money, they are both relativley cheap. St.kilda need ruckman, so it was totally justified signing those two names.

Clarke may prove might handy in the run home. With Kosi hitting top form, playing Clarke in the ruck gives RL flexibility in playing Kosi forward or as a follower around the ground.

We got Clarke cheap, and the rewards have been terrific. When he's played, he's pretty much delivered (he did pretty well against Carlton, imo). Furthermore, he's been able to bring experience to younger rucks like the Van. I think having an experienced ruckman in the last 5 games and finals will be a massive benefit. Rix might be having a little bit of time in the Scorps, I fancy.

We got Birss and Gardiner for Pick 43, effectively. Pick 59 was traded to the dogs for birss, then to the eagles for some trade (mcdougall i think), and then back to the saints with gardiner for pick 43.

M. Clarke we got at pick #9 in the preseason draft. Prior to this draft we delisted Troy Schwarze, so in effect we traded Troy Schwarze to the void of nothingness for Matty Clarke.

Yep I was gunna say, for cheap $ we probably picked up a ruck coach at the same time. Hope the lads are learning from him especially LVR.
