I think we should. Pratt will be omitted and McGrath is another chance to be omitted with a few other players.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that you were telling me that Caracella won't see any action until at least round 16. Why the sudden change of mind?

I reckon Caracella was showing a lot of improvement at the start of the year, with regards to the physical side of his game, as well as one-percenters.

Yep.

He "bottomed out" (ie - was TERRIBLE) against the Kangaroos last year, but has been getting steadily better ever since (in between injuries). With the benefit of another pre-season under his belt, he looked to have cemented his spot until railroad Charman came thru.

He'll probably take a few weeks to get back into the swing of things, but will add an extra dimension when he starts firing again.

We need a class finisher.

You are spot on, he may very well be on the softer side.

But guess what... if the team was made up of 22 players who all wanted to be on the bottom of packs, laying huge tackles and bumps or tkaing on the tough men of the other team, we would be in serious trouble.

The Carrot Seller is not the same as a Voss, Black or Hadley, but he is a valuable member of the teamas his finishing is generally very good.

I say bring him back in now. I for one will be a very happy fan.

I believe it's the Lions' policy to make players coming back from medium to long term injury, play their way back through the 2's, rather than to give them walk up starts.

On this basis, I reckon Cara can look forward to one or 2 weeks in the Ressies before they'll consider him.

If C.Scott was made to prove his match-fitness in this way, I can't see them making an exception for Caracella, especially when there are at least 2 viable options in McRae and McGrath.

I don't agree either that McGrath should automatically be chopped to make way for Caracella, or anyone else for that matter.

Agree that McGrath has been quiet for a couple of weeks but he was very good for several weeks before that.

He deserves one more go at least.

The CarrotSeller played in the reserves last week, was named BOG and kicked a couple of goals. I think he should come back in.

It doesn't matter. Look at our next two opponents.

These next 2 weeks are equivalent to reserves games. We can give him match fitness in the seniors on and off the bench. It won't matter, we'll still win.

And it will get him moulded ready for the big action in a few weeks time.

I hope our players don't view these matches as just reserves matches. We need them to be switched on for every match, not think its in the bag already.Thats a mind set I am sure the coaching staff don't want us to embrase.

I think we should put up the no change.Give the players stability and form.A rarity 2 games at home in a row.We need all our players in the finals fit and match fit.Not re injuring themselves due to coming back too early.

Agreed. Caramello would likely struggle at Tigerland where they are less able to create the space for him to do his best work. But like any good flanker, he does well even with limited opportunities. He can get 25 touches, but even when he was just ok in the GF, he still got two playing smart footy. That's pretty handy.

I also think the signs have been generally good for his hardness and courage.

People seem to have quickly forgotten how he got hurt - backing into a pack, knowing the stampede was fast approaching.

Unfortunately for him he got hurt by a teammate, so he got no credit at all for an act of high courage.

If that had been Fly, and he'd been hurt backing back into Michael Gardiner, the trumpets would have been blaring and the angels singing his praises. And quite rightly so.

Caramello didn't know who was coming and the hit would have only hurt more when he found it was Charmo tha poleaxed him.

Personally, I thought the performances of a few players in the Geelong game were substandard. If we have the likes of Caracella, Hart, McRae and Lynch available, I reckon we should bring them back into the seniors for some form.

Pratt didn't get much game time, but when he was on the ground, he didn't do anything too impressive for him to hold a more experienced and accomplished performer.

As much as I like McGrath, I think he needs a stint in the reserves to sharpen up. Copeland will probably survive the axe, although, he'd want to get his act together in the next few weeks.

As for T.Nothing . . . he seems to almost immune to the axe . . . go figure!

If Caracella is fit he should be played, at the expense of Pratt. Even though Pratt didn't get a lot of game time and the conditions weren't conducive to good footy, the onus is on the young player to make it impossible for them to be dropped. Pratt didn't do so on this occasion.

Notting and Copeland would also be under a lot of pressure. McGrath should get another opportunity in the back half when McRae or Hart come back.

Notting could be immune because Leigh might think he's a match winner. That burst that he can produce and excellent long goals.

I reckon if Notting was in another team he'd be All Australian. He has talent but can't seem to find the consistency at Brisbane. Maybe because Leigh isn't playing him as much as he should on the ground.

So this is make or break for Notting.

Yes, play them all. We need to get some serious time into our injured contingent before the game at the G vs the filth.
Cara, Heart, McRea and Lynch if available should at least be on the bench for the next two games.
Got to press the demolition button on Sat. July 17th.

Yep exactly right. With 2 mediocre opponents coming up, now is the time to play these 4 on and off the bench.

I doubt that Leigh holds him in super high regard. Virtually every other player at Brisbane has Leigh's fingerprint on them.

Fly developed fierce defensive pressure. Lukey became a hard little rover type. Leppa and Johno became generals. Aka has developed a hard-nosed directness to his natural goalsense. Vossy already was the closest thing to a carbon-copy of Leigh Matthews going around. Even Caracella is showing more steel than he did at Essendon.

Poor Timmy has played almost his whole career under Leigh, but plays a game that appears to have remained completely free of 'Lethal-ality'.

It's pretty amazing, really.

I'd be tempted to play Caracella. Other than Aker, he's one of the few players in the game who consistently kicks goals he has no right to.

With our wealth of talent, we tend to underestimate this bloke's skills.

I'm still convinced he was a huge influence on Essendon winning a flag in 1990, with his efforts throughout the season.

He also tends to sneak under the opposition's guard. Won't matter much though, because if he's fit, he'll play in our finals' teams

Cool :D

Bugger! This is as a result of thinking earlier today that Essendon deserve a big thrashing for succumbing to Collingwood in 1990.

It's all a Sreudian flip.

Turtle is a gun and no one agreed with me when he came to the club. BOG in his first game back with the ressies and you need to ask, "Should he be picked?”
Lets reflect Cupido is proving to be as big a disappointment to Essendon as he was to us. Headland, as predicted and while a good player, is far from a superstar without the all-star cast. The same could be said about Carra I suppose but the difference is he is a LION. Throw Brennen in the mix and not a bad draft deal after all Eh!

Yep, more than handy.

I've gotta admit I voted "leave him out for a bit" but I'm happy to have been proved wrong.

Liked the way he calmly slotted all 3 of his shots on goal.......and right through the dead centre of the goals too.

Good, cool headed, professional footballer, is Blake.

In a perverse sort of way I think getting injured the way he did will make him a much better player for the Lions. It should have registered to him that if he wants to be an irreplaceable member of the squad he has to take the hits, put himself in positions where hits are coming and he does not flinch and if he does that as second nature to his game he will have a long career with Brisbane.
It certainly was a good return game from his long break.
