Lost it in the 3rd quarter when we should have run away with it. They weren’t good at all but our disposal on multiple occasions was horrendous.

We need to find a winger who can run the lines and be damaging. Wehr is not the solution for the spot
Its been a problem for many years

I doubt we ever get a better chance to beat the crows than what we did tonight for a very long time.

We messed that one up royally with a shocking performance.

It’s okay to admit that a Carr coached side bottled the fck out of a golden opportunity.

It’s happened 4 times already this year.

It won’t mean you like Hinkley.
This is how I see it. We went into this game with momentum and playing the stronger footy. We looked classier until Soligo and Murray had their minute of glory to set up and kick 2 late in the third.

I doubt we get Adelaide again where Thilthorpe and Curtin are ineffective, Dawson missing, Walker injured.

Butters and JHF dropped off the face of the planet after HT and were non-events when the heat got turned up.

Wines and Drew at least gritted their teeth. Our mids stuffed it up all night. That and the inability to clamp on Milera and Keays.
Bit harsh
Butters held up all game
Sure - JHF dropped off after half time. But I wouldn't say it was due to pressure.
He's playing well on the outside, it was others failing to get it to him.

Probably the best showdown JHF has played.

Statistically we had a lot of guys below their best:
JHF 20 disposals
Farrell 12
Richards 10
Burgoyne 14
MacKinlay 5

If Farrell, Burgoyne and Richards are not finding the footy then we’re not linking up well enough to take it inside 50.
You do realise JHF was up on his career average right?

At the very least, carr wasnt smiling after the game.. looked pissed

I was frustrated with the turnovers from Berry like everyone but at least he has a ****ing go unlike a Mackinlay, Wehr or Marshall who seem content just to be in the side
He has to learn to win contested footy & be more composed when he's under pressure. He doesn't get involved enough in the play for a player with a bit of pace. He is very young & I hope he's a fast learner coz we need him to be.

Let it sink in that a nicks led Adelaide that’s only played finals once and never won a final has a 8 to 4 record against us in showdowns.

Only twice in 12 of those showdowns have we been the lower ranked team.
Well that's on Hinkley. We showed too much respect to the Crows tonight. Josh should turn that around with a bit more time.

Closer than i thought it would be, good signs for Carr and the boys.
agreed

since the 43-point loss to North Melbourne our losses have been 2 points, 14 points, 3 points & now 1 point

this from a team playing tonight with
  • 6 players under 25 games
  • 3 players under 50 games &
  • 5 players under 90 games

we are definitely going in the right direction

we just have to get games into them this year and maybe next ...

In general I think they play Adelaide oval better than us.
They always clog up space in the corridor and it works just about everytime against us lately.

Clearly we'd judge him on his season average.. not career.
He was 25% up on inside 50s, 20% up on clearances.
Sure, he was 0.1 (total) down on goal assists, and 10% (3 total) down on disposals.

But he had a good game.

Dont attack him.
He was the 2nd most influential player (behind Allir) for port in the game.

Top 4 across both teams (with Allir, Berry, Milera)

It doesn't matter if it's a Walsh team, a Pyke team or a Nicks team.

They smash us in the middle, find loose players on the outside at every stoppage and smash us with repeat inside 50s.

Groundhog day watching this club in Showdowns.

If we pulled off that win it wouldve felt like the roles were reversed from the Hinkley dominate every stat line and lose the game days. This was especially evident against the Clowns in that era. I much prefer the promising sign that we can now score when we go inside 50 and felt that we were the more efficient team. We are clearly playing a different brand and the brand looks far more promising for our long term future.

Hated the result, but surely - SURELY, that game was an advertisement of why the Showdown should be a stand alone game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
agreed .. pity the Power couldnt do what Port Magpies did in the earlier game ..

it was great to hear Port Magpies win (and move off the bottom of the ladder)

My theory is that in this period they have way more top SA homegrown players who are passionate about Showdowns too.

Our top players are basically non-SA.

Here, those that doesn’t learn the importance of the derby on arrival, they learn it after the first one they play.

Berry probably gets the Showdown medal.
Had this sick feeling from the get go when they dominated all the important stats for almost the entire 4 qtrs.

Should have smashed us, but they were so bad they couldn’t do it, hence my rage that we didn’t elevate our game enough.

The only stat we won was scoring efficiency inside forward 50, which kept us in front for most of the game.

But our continual dumb errors kept gifting them goals and kept those d***wads close.

Hope Josh doesn’t sit them down and tell them to take positives out of the match. Absolutely torch them. Tell they can’t think that close is ok. Tell them we’ve lost one kick games to Eagles, Crows, Hawks and by a couple to the Saints, and we could be 7-1 now if we truly believed in ourselves.

It’s NOT good enough.
It’s a loser mentality to think that way.
Toughen up, stop s******g the bed, take responsibility and be men, not sheep in the big moments, or we’ll be a side that does it over and over ad nausea for years to come, and never be successful.

Be ruthless.
Act like winners.
I agree with that

and after all that, its better we lost those close games, believe it or not.

its remarkable we're even talking like this with that cattle we have out there

If we take the longterm view of finishing lower to optimise our draft hand while building a strong game plan and resilient culture, then it’s probably ok. I just don’t think Showdowns where the cards fall our way should be the games we accept losing, by whatever margin.
