It's like WWE for sure. Definitely manufactured outcomes happening. Remember Port's last game against Gold Coast last year? It was Boak's final game and the umpires didn't even try to hide what they were doing.
Umps are def manufacturing close games this year.

We would have hosted the Suns in the first final and maybe just maybe, straight into a prelim.

I’m late to this, it may have been mentioned, maybe I’m missing something, and it doesn’t really matter, so I apologise ahead of time…but anyway…

Why is this thread Showdown LIV - which is 54? It was 59, which is LIX

Don't need to. Just review field ump decisions that impact goals. How is it different than the touch rule being reviewed?
It's entirely different. The touch rule is purely a matter of physical fact, which can probably be improved by camera review in close cases. Push in the back is purely an umpire judgement call. You can't have the 5th umpire asserting his judgement view over the 4 on-field umpires. Christ, there's enough of that already with the routine very late calls by the 4th umpire on high-contact calls on diving flogs!

Well, if you bring that up, then we could have a 5th umpire overruling the ridiculous Butters "push in the back, I'll cannon into the fence", and take away his goal! Great! But, on second thoughts, I don't think that would be a good thing. How far back do you go?

We really need to get back to trying only to eliminate howlers. We need less intervention, not more.

p.s. A push is a physical fact, but they get paid on judgement as to the force. Umpire's views differ. Do you want accelerometers on the back of each player?

Nah we need more intervention. The umpires suck arse and should have as much responsibility stripped from them as possible.

I would argue that push in the back should be easier to review than half of the touch ball examples where you can't see shit.

It there's a clear throw to a player who kicks the goal that should be reviewed. You can replay over and over to see if a touch happens why can't you review to see if there was a legit disposal that lead to a goal.

Should be leeway to do reviews if the game has already stopped too. The main knock is that reviews slow the game down.

slippery slope. so many half throws/handballs that even with replays are hard to determine. ditto for touched marks, holding the balls etc

we are already using too much technology - and its increasingly creeping - we need to strip things back imo otherwise you could literally have 20-40 5th umpire reviews every game. and nobody wants that surely
