Maybe. I think it's a bit of a myth that you need to have a lot of weight to be a good ruckman, now or in the past. There is no set rule that says "you need to weigh this much or you won't get anywhere". I wouldn't say Dean Cox or Shaun Rehn - arguably the two best ruckman of the last 15 years - were heavy. Then again, weight is/was a strength for someone like Brendon Lade and Clark Keating when they dominated.

The last thing you want is demand a player puts on bulk and have it affect their agility, like Matthew Primus.

I think theres a difference between weight and core strength. Griffin has neither.

I think core strength is the important one though. Players like Cox, Rehn, I'll even add fletcher to the list even though he isnt a ruckman, are not muscle bound players but you could see that they were strong and very wirey and cagey and were not pushed around easily. Griffin looks very weak out there, and gets pushed round way too easily, this is amplified when you watch him in marking contests with smaller players, players he should easily out mark, but desn't.

Anyone who thinks Griffin is physically strong enough to be a consistent Ruckmen at AFL level is dillusional

Hello, it was late. :o :D

If i was the crows i'd go pretty small in the forwards department against ports slow defense so:

Ins: Jericho, Mackay, Walker/Gill/McGregor

Outs: Burton :(, Porplyzia :(,
Griffin

and forward line:

FF: Jericho, Goodwin, Douglas
HF: Mackay, Walker/Gill/McGregor, Edwards

Ah, we should win this one easily. Port will try to play dirty again and target young Walker (if he plays).
But I would still be alert of Motlop kicking tonnes of goals.

Not going to go this time. This will be the first showdown I have missed in the last 14.

Whoa, i've never been to one, and as i said, we're not going this one because petrol's just too expensive (besides the fact my parents don't like either of these teams). It costs about $150 in fuel now to go to Adelaide and back. :( Hopefully we'll be going in round 22 though since Mum's a Bulldogs supporter.

Yes agreed the scum will try to get stuck into him, even though not really possible seen as we need him in the ruck would love to have Maric next to him & when they have a crack he'd be all over them fat kid on a cup cake style... the only man in our team that is willing to get physical.

Southern End, first Showdown in a while I've been to. I've only ever been to losing Showdowns unfortunately!

Likely changes:
In: Jericho, Mackay, McGregor (if Griff's hip forces him out)
Out: Burton, Porplyzia, Griffin (if inj)

It's great to see Petrenko starring for WWT as well as Martin and Moss making the most of their opportunities. Curnow must surely be in some danger of being cut at the end of the year.
