I find it crazy that Dodson might be available at our pick, but we have said we are getting Walsh.
I wish we had the list spots. That’s honestly crazy he’s still available

How many did Rankine kick last year playing predominantly as a mid? 29 I think.

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

He didn't play predominantly as a mid in 2024. He played midfield about 5 weeks during the season 5,6, 10, 14 and 16

However - he could be our solution to the goal kicking midfield if he becomes a full time mid in 2025.

Those 5 games he played a lot of midfield time he managed to kick 9 goals - which is bloody impressive.

If healthy Rankine will (IMO) have a season that puts Shai Bolton's All Australian season 2022 to shame (he kicked 43 goals and had 381 CBA's).

I like draper, but not sure I'm that excited that we've drafted a potential elite mid.

The reason I wanted him most is his speed, power and agility for a pure mid. We have rarely had this type in our midfield and it will add dynamism.

I think he's likely a sure thing to be a high level afl player based on the above together with his two way running, tackling and professionalism. The reason I doubt he'll be in the upper echelon is that lack of class. I think he's okay with decision making and skills (not poor), but he's probably not damaging enough with his disposal and on the scoreboard.

Imo his peak status would likely be at a similar level to where I see Soligo being.

Curtin on the other hand i think could be in the elite tier.

There was a reason Dodson went so late in the Draft …. even his U18 Ruck partner was drafted b4 him

Sometimes the hype doesn’t match reality

What is good, we have a number of Sth Aust Rucks in the AFL System now …. we should be able to lasso one, after other clubs have spent years developing their game & body

It seems obvious now, that’s our plan

The great thing about line breaking players with speed … they attract multiple defenders & free up teammates

Whilst i love Soligo, he’s not that player …. he’s more one on one

I like Jake, but this kid is well above him.
Soligo has a ceiling of a Kane Johnson to my eye..very effective and quality player but in the tier down from the very best mids..that's no knock mind you, to be a contending side you need the top teir players to be supported by high quality underneath. Soligo is absolutely that.

That's a good assessment of him "now" but I reckon I'll give him more than one season as a (full time) mid.
before rating his final form.
Sheeitt! Ollie Wines won a Brownlow in year #8.

Fair enough.

I just don't think he will get tot he level of Daicos, Reid, Callaghan etc - but these guys are the star mids of the comp and they all have a point of difference to the rest. Soligo is a well rounded player that tends to be very consistent - if Rankine is the dusty martin of the team, Soligo is the Cotchin (forget the thuggery etc, its more one was the star, the other was very effective)

Think we'd all be happy with that!🏆🏆🏆😉🤞

Soligo had several games last year when he was running on the spot: he clearly has OP, or similar.
He shouldn't have been playing.
I think we need to wait for that to get fixed before we make any fundamental judgements.

Soligo’s definitely developing his burst, tried to showcase it a few times last year but mostly followed it up with poor finishing. If he can combine his smarts and skills in traffic with some genuine acceleration (by improving his fitness), I see no reason yet why he can’t win at least a couple of AA’s, eventually

Odd Draper said Nick Murray is 9, surely we haven’t changed Murray from 28 to 9 with a low pick mid coming in? Drapers favourite Crow was Sloane.

Would seem a strange move.

Soligo would make a lot more sense from a player perspective (midfielder + gets a locker next to his buddy), but 14 to 9 would be a weird shift in isolation, too

I’m not sure why we aren’t just giving it to Sid

Maybe he's sick of Laird telling him off.
