C'mon AFC, this is written in the stars
C'mon AFC, this is written in the stars
Could we do it? Could we go to our youth and release something for the finals?
We are flagging right now. Even though we have been winning - we've lost that burst and damage.
Now we have no Rankine, we need to step into this challenge and make the decision that winning a final is not the aim ... we need to do everything we can to win the premiership.
Our defence is the building block that we got here on, now throw some spice in see what we get!!
Draper is the one. Add in Rachele for a Prelim and maybe Dowling on a wing?
Will be interesting to see where it lands.
Hopefully it's NOT just Murphy and Smith.

Rachele should be back first week of finals.
I'm fearing the worse but hope for the best. Smith and Murphy will not stand up in finals.

Sid isn't ready, why can't people see that?
He's got great potential for sure but still a boy's body. He's not a Harley Reid of JHF but he could be a star. He needs a big pre season then watch him next year.

This is correct, but we have been forced into this situation because of Rankine. If we go for someone stodgy, then our X-factor quotient is way too low. It's risky, but worth it, IMO.
On Last Crack, they've also worked this out, suggesting to roll out "Sid the Kid" for finals.
He needs to play forward.

Draper is the ONE player in our team who has anything like the breakaway speed Izak does.
This should be his time, if our coaches have the collective balls. They had the faith in Curtin this year. They've showed the faith in Berry ahead of Crouch the last few months. It's time again they put their faith in a young player with raw talent so the team can step up.
Just last week the ABC reminisced about the Blues last Premiership 30 years ago, and the faith they showed in a raw rookie from Adelaide. Maybe now's the time we did the same. Blight did it in 1997 with a kid called Goodwin. You heard of him?

got to have form to back it up. Its one thing to have those traits, but if you dont have the exerience or the game to bring it then its not going to magically happen. Draper did not have a break out game. He has failed to really bring it at Sanfl level. Should he get game time though? absolutely, should be selected as its the only way to build experience and take those next steps. But I wouldnt be expecting anything close to Rankine like performances at this stage. Glimpses sure.

JFC. Compared to Murphy? Take a punt on a kid who has the raw traits and may actually do something. Compared to a proven failure.

Eh, Sid is ready to contribute something at half forward flank. In part because we really don't need anything from our bottom 1-2 selections there (losing Rankine doesn't change that, we just straight up can't replace him and are forced to double down on what we do defensively), and Sid has leg speed which is something our side could do with more of.
Definitely not ready to dominate a finals series, or play midfield, but could do a job for a couple of weeks. Similar to what Taylor is doing at the moment. At worse, it's just the same output we get from Murphy/Pedlar/Cook (i.e. nothing) but younger.
From what we saw in the pre season, he looked like he was ready to at least play at the level.
I don't know what toll the season has taken on his body but it would be nice to see him given one more shot against North. That said, seems the type we'd make sub which is such a tough way to adjust to the speed of AFL and put any case forward.
He's not ready to be the player he will become just yet, but he can still contribute, and would also benefit from having a couple of games at the end of the season, especially if he can play in the finals. That's invaluable experience for a first-year player.
Again, I keep coming back to this, but (as a sub) he was already able to contribute back at the start of the season in midfield bursts. No reason why he couldn't do so now. And there's no way he offers less than the likes of Jones coming on as sub.
The problem with that, is hes not a forward
