I tend to agree. I want longevity out of him. I would still debut him in the starting side and plan to sub him at 3qt. Curtin would be my pick as sub atm. Very versatile and can cover injury mid, fwd and back. Still getting games into him.Seeing Sid come on as essentially a sub and tear it up was amazing. He was everything Ned was as a sub, but with ability added to the mix. He will absolutely destroy teams that are down on energy.
I know its not great to debut as sub, but I think with the careful load management they've been giving him, it is the ideal role for him to start the season. Curtin is the other ideal sub, his skills, size and endurance make him so handy. I'd rather see both get max gametime, but it's Nicks we are talking about, they'll both be lucky to even be in the squad.

According to Bigman, he seems to have been managed through the preseason by only doing some of the drills. I think they have been mindful of the back and will continue to be so through the season. How’s his back issues going that he had when we drafted him?
Seems like he’s done all the preseason?
I'm quite sure as a 1st year player Draper wouldn't have any issues playing sub. It's still a great start for any young player. It will probably be good for him and even better for the team.Seeing Sid come on as essentially a sub and tear it up was amazing. Exactly right, your prized top 5 draft pick should be given a full game in his debut, he can be sub in other games to manage his load but his debut deserves to be a full game that all his family and friends will attend.I don't mind the idea of managing him via being the sub, but not for his debut.
Debut as the sub/being subbed is shite.
Should be Laird, but it won't be.

At least it's good we are having conversations about which mid is going to be unlucky to miss out. We haven't had that problem for awhile.Maybe
I can see the arguments as well for Crouch in now as we have a better balance of CBA attendees who compliment him but Peatling and Soli are beasts at extraction as well and provide more dimensions than Croucher. I'm not sure his time is up just yet but the clock is definitely ticking and the likelihood is that Crouch does not add another role to his resume this late in his career.
I think he is lucky that Draper isn't in his third year otherwise there would be no room at all for Matt
Yeah true, I mean not long ago our midfield was Laird Keays Sloane and Crouch....no wonder we won the spoonAt least it's good we are having conversations about which mid is going to be unlucky to miss out. We haven't had that problem for awhile.
I actually thought Pedlar had one of those ‘almost’ games. Got to the right spots, worked hard…but let himself down once again by his poor execution.Just some thoughts on the match last night.
Thought Tex was chasing a lot down last night, and he seems to be tacling more around the contest. Last year he looked really lethargic, and I was concerned that coming out of defence opposition teams essentially had a spare man to run out from the back with Tex/Fog/Filth all lumbering behemoths. We seem to be tightening things up a bit with opposition D50 exits, and that's encouraging.
I thought Pedlar was really poor. Seems to do everything at 80% intensity, and just seems very sloppy at everything he does. Kicking on the run, snap shots.... just seems a very sluggish attitude.
OOC the end of next year, and doesn't seem to be progressing for me..
Only real other concern for me was quiet games from Keays and Curtin. Both will be fine, but Curtin you'd have to be worried about where they put him. It sounds like we're still experimenting about where he fits, and you'd rather that experiment happens in preseason, it's just a matter of do you go with him during the season proper, particularly when we're so tall up forward and back already.
Everyone else seemed to have fairly balanced games. Enjoyed Draper when he came on.
Seems like a demon for hard work so maybe need to keep him on tight rein for his own good given his previous injury nigglesAccording to Bigman, he seems to have been managed through the preseason by only doing some of the drills. Still going with your early call on Sid Draper?I actually thought Pedlar had one of those ‘almost’ games. Got to the right spots, worked hard…but let himself down once again by his poor execution.
Not going to lie. I’m pretty excited by what I saw last night.Still going with your early call on Sid Draper?![]()
I have had my reservations too, and still do to some extent, but am really happy with him so farNot going to lie. I’m pretty excited by what I saw last night.
What was the call?Still going with your early call on Sid Draper?![]()
Yes, Crouch is very much as need as an extractor, particularly in wintery conditions & will be better off with Peatling, Rankine, Soligo & Draper around him. It's about balance which is better with no Laird. But you need a guy who is elite at extracting the ball, and he is excellent at it, infact the best we have in the team.
A few years ago our issue was that we had too many of that type in the team, but now we don't.
It's no coincidence that our teams uptick last year coincided with his return to the team.
He is important to our structure, more than people know.
He said we'd delist Draper at seasons endWhat was the call?
