Taylor is chronically under valued outside of the club. He's played 21 of our last 28 games. He does things few others can and makes excellent decisions. The way he won the ball to start the chain for the Milera goal (that wasn't) was exceptional. You'd love hm to have more possessions but he's playing a very tough role, and one I doubt Sid is suited
He also was nowhere near wines on multi big plays like there final goal

So your satisfied with his current form and trajectory regards his development?
We should all be concerned IMHO, apart from his speed there hasn't been a lot to enthuse about with his game currently.
Is it the end of the world for Sid?
No, but it has to be concerning because by all accounts he's no longer carrying niggles that are holding him back.
Im not going to wet the bed that s midfielder early in his 2nd year off 2 limited prep isnt shooting the lights out.

His current form is nowhere near as bad as you make it out to be.

At what stage do you feel we have chayce jonesed him
That’s a cop out, jones looked all at sea from day 1 for the first 3 years then got better, then regressed again.

Anyway you look at it, it’s not great that we have our pick 4 from last year playing SANFL.

He’s regressed from his last draft year. Whether that’s injuries, confidence, structure, it’s a reality.

Might as well get him into the team and see if he can show why he was one of the best kids in the country and go from there.

As I’ve said elsewhere, I don’t think Zac Taylor is adding what others see. If we’re looking for a spot to slot Sid into then that’s the obvious change to me.

So you feel this is a different type of Goddening than what happened to Jones?
I haven’t seen enough of Sid to comment but jones has not been Goddened, some players just don’t translate to AFL and unfortunately he’s one.

I'd be more concerned if Draper had a full pre-season and this is where he was at.

We know that's not the case and had a few issues last year too for memory (and draft year). This at least gives us a reason as to why he's not setting the world on fire at the moment. So at this stage the bar is just playing every week, hopefully get something out of him in the second half of the season. Needs a full pre season next year and then real expectation will be there.

If he can't get a pre season in next year, well you start to consider if it's a bust due to him being injury prone - yet you're not going to give up on him even if that's the case obviously.

Reports are that Jones is a very clever footballer and is hard to teach. Not that he doesn't listen, but isn't a smart footballer.
Is or isn't a smart footballer?

Don't need reports, you can see it when he is on the field.

He's only 1 pick after Jagga Smith who is showing much more currently, and he's coming off a full knee recon.

Then Ashcroft and Langford coming the two picks after him.

When he has been injury free he's shown speed and power but he looks a bit off balance to me. Like his body's too quick for his decision making. But I haven't seen much of his sanfl so could be way off. Hope he shows a bit at AFL level later this year

If he played AFL, he would figure it out quickly. just needs games under his belt.
Nicks just doesn't play the kids though, IMO he should be in the team in Taylor's role just learning the craft

Thing is, he does play the kids we pick up the pointy end.

He's been unlucky with injury so far, its ruined both his pre seasons and it seems like a lot of people forget that.

Agree. He would provide similar output to Taylor in that role but getting him in the afl and spurts on the ball is what’s needed.

But Nicks won’t do it.

he seems tough and has natural elite speed. add that to leadership, and ULTRA motivated and professional and i believe we will see an elite mid in time as learning about better decision making and skills he will be 110% devoted to improving.

i believe long term he will be an elite mid for us as he has all the tools but has just been cruelled so far by injury - some if it apparently from over-training as he was too keen

I’m no apologist for our selection choices … but isn’t recovery from injury a legitimate reason for a young player to be carefully managed until he is physically up to it?

This was something we knew when we drafted him right?

I’m excited that he will be in the 23 soon because however raw he is / his ceiling is high and his speed and agility is apparently next level.

He probably could (should) have played more games last year, but we seem to be legit protecting him from any midfield minutes at AFL level which I dont understand.

Time for us to have a look this weekend.

Ok, for those that constantly say Nicks does play the kids, what people like me are saying is that Nicks does not look for opportunities to play the kids over marginal older players.

Nicks is the most risk averse coach in the AFL and this is another example of that risk averse nature shining through.

Once you understand this point then understanding Nicks’ decisions / game plan etc becomes a lot simpler.

Theres plenty of evidence to suggest he plays the top end kids, which is what Sid is.

The fact he's not doing that with Sid suggests we are taking more of a long term view to get him right.
