Siddle ball tampering allegation

Once again we see certain countries coming to Australia and accusing them of illegal acts and wrong doings. It's been going on for years, because as we all know, the Aussies are the only people who do anything wrong in cricket

What's even worse is there are people out there who are prepared to believe it.

The other shot of the ball being shined did look a bit sus. It was being held really unnaturally.

Think the inquiry was justified.
That's right. You just wouldn't hold the ball like that, unless... Siddle wouldn't want to do that again. Going to be even more scrutiny now.

How can we have allegations of ball tampering in this day and age? At the fall of every wicket, every drinks break, every lunch, tea and stumps break, and at the end of the innings, the ball is returned to the umpires for their inspection.

If umpires aren't able to detect anything in this time, how can one isolated shot on TV hold much credence?
That assumes that umpires have the ability to tell the difference between natural wear and tear and ball tampering.

Any idiot knows you keep your fingernails well away from the seam. I'm certainly not saying they were tampering but I do not blame the Sri Lankans for highlighting it to the match referee for consideration.

Sri Lanka have basically admitted that they made the complaint solely because the camera had zoomed in close up. Their assumption was that because the camera zoomed in their must have been something going on.

Crazy stuff. An apology should be served as a minimum.

I for one am completely fed up with Indian and Sri Lankan teams throwing round accusations for serious offenses, based upon nothing more than their impertinence.

It wasn't a complaint or an allegation. It was just a suggestion to the match referee to look at the footage.

The way it's been reported is ridiculous.

Which is effectively an allegation, just not officially submitted.

They would not officially submit a complaint, because they knew no wrong was actually done, they just want to whinge, ruffle feathers and make baselss allegations of cheating, without actually having the conviction to officially do it. Hardly makes it any better in my book.

Or maybe they saw the footage, thought it looked a little strange (which it does) and was worth someone taking a second look to clear up any ambiguity.

Everyone has been way too oversenstive about it. Siddle in particular.

The footage does not look strange at all, just simply a close up of Siddle holding the ball before he comes into bowl.

Any person in a high level position should know that you do not make an accusation of cheating, which this is, lightly. The media has acted exactly as you'd expect. Word spreads very quickly these days. An allegation of ball tampering, is an allegation of ball tampering. there is no easy laid back way to do that. It is a very serious claim to put on someone. To suggest they are a cheat.

Siddle has every right to be upset about this. He has basically been labelled a cheat. I would be livid, if based upon the footage they used, labelled me a cheat. It is poor form, but something we have come to expect from some visiting teams.

The Siddle footage is nothing.

It's the ball rubbing one (was that Siddle or Cowan?) that is dodgy. You just wouldn't hold the ball like that unless you were trying to gouge the ball with your thumbnail while making it look like you're just polishing it.

That was Cowan. I've not really had a good look at that. It sort of popped up as a sidewhow to this whole Siddle farce.

Just saw footage of a Sri Lankan bowler fingers on the seam of the ball when bowling. Hope the Aussies make an 'informal' complaint.

We do that, the racism line will be brought out immediately.

Overreactions in this thread. They didn't come out and complain about it publically, but made a quiet complaint to the match referee which they are more than entitled to do. I bet they would have had beers with the Aussies after the game and Siddle had no problem doing so.

Who gives a shit? I like the Sri Lankans, they aren't the c*** smokers the Indians are.

I say we burn an effigy of someone... Julia Gillard will do

As a business idea, I have thought of perhaps opening an online effigy business. The effigies they use are often just crappy rag-dolls. How much better would they be if you could get proper life-like effigies. Surely there is an opening in the market for this.
