Well, what a hero! So you were one of the very few Hawk supporters to stay to the end of those thrashings in 2011 and 2010.

BTW - Thanks also for those long lists of excuses you offered for those losses of past years. Most imformative.

this thread was about pie supporters that left not hawks in the past i am not trying to cause trouble never have never will i am hoping you are not trying to do just that , anyway as i said i was shocked by the amount of pies that had left , to get back at your dig at me i never noticed that many hawks leave in those games not saying none left there is a good chance some did , like others here have said people leave in all games and for many reasons , i was not having any go at any one and there was no reason to have a go at me over something i do not control yes i stay at games always will even if we were flogged by 300 points i would still be there but that is me that is not you for all i know you might leave at half time if that happened

Every club has its supporters who don't stick it out to the end. Its not something Pies are alone in.
in some cases it makes sense, like if you have to catch a Vline - I know they are pretty strict on when they leave.

but for all other reasons it doesn't makes sense. 30 minutes to wait for the next train isnt the end of the world. being stuck in the jam on Punt RD for 20 minutes instead of 10 isnt that big of a deal. If your worried about your kids, wait 15 minutes peacefully in your seat and then go. I personally stay in the ground until I get kicked out. Grounds are void of people walking around looking for cars, and you still get home at a pretty good hour.

i thought there were extra trains when games ended or has metro stuffed that too ?? i usually chat with friends till crowd dies down whether i go by train or drive , if i drive i am not wasting fuel sitting in the car park with the engine on

It was 25 minutes till the first train after the game.

The Railway should be disgusted with itself.

I left early in last year's Grand Final, only because I couldn't bear the pain of seeing yet another GF loss.

Completely opposed to the stigma with leaving early.

People leave early because they hate seeing their club lose, and to me that's a demonstration of profound support.

Supporters are so attached to their teams that losing is just an unbearable sight. :p

Cos channel 7 pushed for Friday night games to be moved from 7.40 back to 7.50 this year, all the trains that normally come just after the end have already left.

Man I can't believe this. This is such a stupid way to run two organisations.

The Richmond v Carlton game was the same as well, I went to that game two.

Sitting there after both games, waiting for one train to come by.

Both nights thousands of fans inconvenienced.

I do think its pretty poor if you leave half way through the last when we're losing. The supporters should be sticking with the side through the good and the bad times, not going because the sides heading to a loss.

The team would want their supporters to sit there proud of them, not run off because they are ashamed of them. Really, thats what youre doing when you walk out, why else are you leaving? You wouldn't if they were up by 5 goals.

Thats just my honest opinion.

agreed you would think they would talk and make sure it is sorted so there are trains at the station when the people rock up

I could not believe my eyes at about the 20 min mark . The sight of Collingwood supporters leaving in their hundreds was bitterly disappointing .

Nathan Buckley stayed till the final siren not making a quick exit to the car .

We normally stay to the end, BUT, the intensity from the Collingwood team was so low, I felt half of the players had left. I felt no guilt; I went home, watched some of the game on Foxtel (to get a different perspective). Next morning we took lur kids to Auskick, then drove from Melbourne to Geelong to watch the VFL.

Really, your view of Side by Side is fine, mine is just a little different.

P.S. We are home and away members and 3 of our kids are home members even though they are young enough to not pay. If we choose to leave 15 minutes early it does not mean we are not "one eyed", sticking side by side!

I always stay until the end. For whatever reason I feel it show's more character to hang around and cop it on the chin rather than walk away early just because I'm angry. I never like to take the easy option just because it's easy.

(Not meant to be a "I'm better than you" post.. just my take on it)

I clapped the players off the ground after the 2011 grand final to thank them for the year they had given us. I think all our supporters should have done the same thing..
Having said that i left early on friday night i went against what i usually do.

One could also pose the argument that since the players are being PAID to be there and haven't really stayed until the end with their efforts (when they're being pumped, beaten badly), why should we stay when we paid to be there and can choose to leave when we like?

By staying, we just get stressed and pissed off, which negatively affects our health. Not sure why we should be letting highly paid professional athletes do that to us.

I pay my $500 a year, plus another $7 each time I go to one of the 'big games', then even more for finals.

So those players are well supported my individuals like myself. No reason for me to stay at game when the players don't appear to give a shit they're pissing people like us off. I mean look at us, we sit here like goons arguing on an internet forum while the players moved on only hours after the game.

As far as I'm concerned we have every right to leave early, and to me leaving early should tell the players we won't put up with shit.

out of interest has anyone during all the years gone to a game left for what ever reason the team was losing when you left but you get home and find there was a come back and they won and you wished you had stayed ??

As a kid I went to a Geelong v Collingwood game and my parents (who were neutral/non supporters) got us to leave before the siren. At the time the Pies were a few goals down but they came back to win. In saying that we didn't leave because the game was lost, but because my parents didn't want to be stuck in traffic. It was still good listening to it on the radio on the way home!

cool they talk of stories of this happening that is why i ask thank you for answering that is a cool story , i know there are many reasons for leaving not just cause they are losing so that is cool
i know if i had not choice and had to leave for work or other reasons and my team was behind and came to win i would want to be there that's for sure ,
even though it may not be the case ,

talking the radio what station is the best for listening to a good game of footy ? if by chance you had to leave and wanted to listen on the way to where ever you maybe going ??

I don't leave till there is absolutely no hope, so I've never missed a comeback. I do still listen to the end on radio though, I like MMM, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I remember seeing heaps of essendon fans leaving at that anzac day game a couple years ago, I thought they were crazy at the time cause I didn't think the game was over. They must have been spewing afterwards.

I have only ever left early three times. I've endured 100 point drubbings until the end, but those three times was mainly because of the opposition supporters around me.

I think it was in 2008, against North Melbourne, we were down by a few goals with what seemed to be only a couple of minutes to go. I had been exchanging pleasantries with a group of North supporters all night, and they were absolutely giving it to me. I'd had a crap day as it was, so I thought I'd sneak off when they weren't looking.

Anyway, as I went down the stairs, the crowd was going off. I didn't think much of it. But I got outside the ground and some guy ran past me who was listening to the radio saying "Didak put us in front!!!!!!" So I ran back inside to the standing room, only to discover Didak had missed from 25 metres out on the run, and we were still a couple of points down. Lindsay Thomas then kicked the sealer, and made me suffer the defeat twice over.

encountered crap supporters know what you mean some dog supporters nearly got me booted out of etihad before the game with what they did to me could have rammed my sign where the sun don't shine if i could have got away with it but cops watching could not , got warned yet they said nothing to the idiots behind me that caused me to swear twice and only twice [only time i had ever done so at that too ]

shame the guy was not right on dids getting you in front :(

I stayed until the end last Friday but I don't always. Depends on the mood of the game. If we're getting pumped and it looks like the players have given up then I might give up as well. Thankfully this hasn't happened a lot over recent years and I can't remember the last time I left early (didn't go to the last H&A game last year thank god!).
