Swann has variations...Lyon doesn't...plus he has one that goes the other way, Lyon does not. See the difference.

????

Lyon does have a ball that goes the other way, Swann does not. Not saying Lyon is a better bowler, this you could not be more wrong in your assessment. Swann's traditional arm ball is better, but Jeff has potential.

- Warner
- Cowan
- Hughes
- Robot
- Clarke
- M. Hussey
- Wade
- Siddle
- Starc
- Bird
- Lyon

- Lyon should definitely play. Would've taken 4 wickets in Tasmania if Wade hadn't ****ed up the easiest stumping ever, and if Clarke had've held the easiest chance at 1st.

- Don't want to see an attack of Johnson with Siddle and Starc. Could go very wrong. Need someone to contain things, so Bird needs to play.

They think he's about to break down

Who are these clowns looking after quick bowlers?

I think they are just going to be overly cautious with him because almost all the quicks his age continue to get injured. Given their rotation policy is makes sense to rest him from the Boxing Day test so he can play on his home ground the SCG.

If they must rest Starc because of this stupid rotation policy can they at least pick somebody who isn't as shit as Mitchell Johnson FFS he shouldn't be anywhere near the Test side.

Siddle and Hilf resting for the WACA Test maybe 'fair enough. However this rotation policy is looking more and more like an excuse to make, for when selection's get a bit tough!

The rotation policy

That's really working well isn't it? We now have a list of quicks who can't bowl for more than 2 Tests without breaking down.

It doesn't make any sense, the selectors rotate bowlers and those bowlers end up getting injured. Stark who has been fairly injury free makes the team now they want to rotate him!

Starc looked every inch the specimen of fitness in the last session of day 5, for a young bowler to bob up on the last day of a test match was impressive and selectors should not be flirting with this guys form. Were seeing the bowlers who get injured are in fact the ones who get put in cotton wool.

I dont want to include Patto in this because his list of injury's goes back to his teenage years where he has been well known for long lay off's for serious conditions.

The bowlers need to make the call between Johnson and Bird, and not the two bowlers who won the match, they can rest starc for a patch of the nonsense cricket later in the summer.

Have the selectors even had the opportunity to use the rotation policy? As Bucking Beads said, Hilf and Siddle have been mainstays, and all of the changes to the third seamer have typically been the result of injury (primarily Patto and Harris) rather than resting.

Not that I necessarily agree with it, if Starc is fit he should be playing. The caveat to that obviously being if he is fit. Playing Patto at the SCG last year knowing he was likely to break down was farcical.

Starc actually shows something of real goodquality in the last match so our dickhead selectors decide it's time to rest him and give him a rest and break the momentum for that dud Mitchell Johnson.
WTF are they doing?

Agreed.

Resting him after he took a 5-fer is completely insane, especially when a series is still on the line.

If you must rest him, do it if/when the Test series is over as a contest at the very earliest.

Are the selectors planning to rotate the bowling lineup during the Ashes?

I would expect them to. They will rotate the like of Cummins, Starc and Pattinson IMO. The quicks over the age of 25 should be right to go for a whole series.

So what is starc actually being rested for?

I assume he doesn't have any actual diagnosed injury so he's being rested from a potentially series deciding test match so they make sure he's fit for what? possibly a dead rubber test? the one dayers?

I feel for the bowlers having to follow the advice of CA and it's experts, they have such a shocking track record i wouldn't trust them to look after a goldfish.

Starc should be able to bowl in 4 tests on the trot, selectors may be being overly cautious due to the injuries accumulated already and the 'weak' opposition. Seems like we need to fire The Weapon as our conditioning coach though :p

As general rule I am really liking this selection panel though, more than any other in recent memory.

Starc rested. Siddle, Bird, Johnson to play along with Lyon.

Why would you rest him after a, what, 8 day break?

I suppose the SCG test starts 5 days after the MCG, but come on, this is the biggest Test of the Year in Australia, and he has to take a lie down??

Heard Stewie Clark a couple of weeks ago on Fox, and he's no fan of Sports Science. He pretty much called them all AFL quacks.

Phillip Hughes
Rob Quiney
Shaun Marsh
Marcus North (c)
Callum Ferguson
Steve Smith
Brad Haddin (+)
Johan Botha
John Hastings
Mitchell Johnson
Shaun Tait
12th - Jordan Silk

Surely it would make more sense to play Starc in the Boxing Day test to try and win the series and then rest him for the Sydney test if that's a dead rubber.

If they play Johnson instead and he opens up the pie shop which allows Sri Lanka to level the series the selectors might have some serious explaining to do.

I like the look of that side but I'd probably rest Phil Hughes for Chris Rogers.

.

Two weeks ago, Starc was the back-up guy, 2 5 for's and a solid 68, and we're resting him????
