Side vs Hawks

Hopefully we don't just bomb it in long like we have the past two games and actually spot up our leading forwards, as we have no one to bring the ball down for our small forwards, and relying on Davis to take a mark over 3 defenders ain't going to win many games.

With the way we move the ball around the boundary line and the way Hawthorn employ the zone, spotting up forwards inside 50 will be nigh on impossible. Look for lots of kicks going into the pockets with shots at goals from difficult angles....and yes you guessed it, a 5-12 like score line.

If we could use a player who threatens to take a contested mark up forward(one who kicks accurately that is) and a crumber at his feet, we could actually kick long to the square and put more pressure on the Hawthorn zone.

You realise, our inaccuracy was in part due to the fact that we were attempting to move the ball into a near-empty (of Pies players) forwardline, which resulted in us either taking snaps under pressure from the pockets or kicking on the run from 45-55m.

If we had selected a key forward or two, we would have had a forward structure to kick to, and we would have kicked more accurately as a consequence. Relying on Davis to take hangers over three opponents to score your goals is just plain idiocy.

We created more than enough 'gettable' goal opportunities (against the flooding kings) to be 4 goals up on them by the 15 min mark of the 3rd, and if we had of hit some free targets that we missed, it would have been even more. The reason was poor skill execution which is more of a worry than anything else.

Poor skill level was to blame, not poor structure or game plan. IMHO.

Go Pies......time to beat the Brown & Gold phobia.

Agree with Kevind..... I think I must be obsessed with this stucture thing.... Why not employ some height to stretched their already thin tall back stocks.

The only thing I can think is that MM wants to employ the revival of Pagan's paddock to defeat the Hawks defensive zone (which has been the rage this season). That is, flood back in defence and should a turnover occur, kick forward to space, effectively over the zone.... My opinion (for what it's worth....probably shit all) is that it works.... but not for the duration of a whole game. I'm sure defenders will hang back sooner or later.

only 41 games left and counting that we have to put up with this useless coach.i think hes trying to make bucks job as difficult as he can for when he tacks over.there are going to be so many players pissed off at the end of the season that they will all request a trade.

I agree and i also know for a fact Cameron Wood is considering a trade back home to play with Port Adelaide i dont know the reasons for it.

Re: In johnson, shaw out mccarthy o'bree

luckiest player in afl is johnson, wouldn't get a game in the top 10 afl sides or montmorency ones.

Ridiculous comment, that. He is a key player in this line up, and has done a superb job so far when he has played this year. Its been said a million times, and its getting boring, but yeah, he hasn't got the best disposal by foot, but the overall package is remarkable, and actually integral to how this team performs this year.

I'd say it is genius how Madhouse has managed to slowly remove 5 of our best young talls (Dawes, Reid, Nathan Brown, Jack Anthony, Cameron Wood) in order to keep playing Leigh Brown & Josh Fraser.

The club are aware Wood wants to return home b/c of a lack of opportunity & have been talking to Boak (very early doors).

This is a ****ing joke.

Wow... someone needs a chill pill.

FWIW my opinions on everyones whinging and gripes.

Johnson - if he's fit he plays... and deserves to. No one has examined his knee from Bigfooty, so let's leave it to the doctors

Dawes - hasn't done enough in the VFL. Once he repeatedly kicks 4's and 5's each week - look at it then. He doesn't have the confidence to play AFL yet... if he isn't killing it against inferior backman in the VFL - He isn't killing it - so doesn't deserve his spot.

Jack - didn't do enough in the VFL last week, doesn't deserve a call up until he does.

Leroy Brown - people complaining that Brown should be out for Jack... WTF? Do you actually watch Collingwood play? They play 2 different games... and Leigh Brown hardly ever plays Jacks position... and Jack never plays his??? Should be in the side... and therefore is.

O'Bree - The same posters whinge week in, week out that Obree shouldn't be in the team... finally he is officially omitted... and these same people breeze straight over it and whinge (dramatically mind you) about other selections, like they just got punched in the head!

Calm down...

Have a cup of tea (Old English is quite nice)...

And prepare yourselves for a different Collingwood this week.

(Pies by 60+)

So far this has been a terrible week for the club, and Micks selections are seriously astounding. If we do not win this game on the back of poor kicking again I will be beyond reconcilable.

Uh, Leigh Brown has been terrible, awful, insipid, horrid. Just about the only thing he's done consistently this year is give away stupid frees. He brings physicality, yes, thats great but he brings nothing else. The only reason he's getting a game is because Mick thinks he's a good bloke.

Re: In johnson, shaw out mccarthy o'bree

dissappointing our forward line is unchanged after one of their worst performances ever

dawes really needs to be in the side, and not just for a few weeks, he needs to given a string of 12+ games just to see what he's made of. he's a young key tall forward .. they do take some time before dominating at AFL level.. but the kids way too good for VFL at this stage.

Macaffer was promoted to the seniors on the back of performances I wouldn't say are any better than Dawes' or Anthony's.

He was promoted because other players were injured/out of form. We still have many out of form players who deserve to be dropped, but weren't.

Medhurst and Davis are going to have to turn their form around completely if this side is to kick a winning score. It's hard to imagine Leigh Brown being the difference. Surely this week was the time to bring in Dawes?

Very worried :(

Rubbish. Brown was very good against the dogs and had a hand in setting up a number of goals. He can go back and play on gorillas (like Roughhead), something Jack cannot do. He did some vital work in the dying stages against Melbourne and threw his weight around against the Saints in a game where many were a lot worse. Leroy is O.K.

He did some good things against the Dogs, but was fairly average all up. And every game since he's been pathetic. Dawes has been playing twice as well as Brown has in the VFL. If you think Brown deserves his spot and Dawes doesn't based on how they've played so far this year then you're full of shit quite frankly.

Leigh Brown has not kicked a goal this year. He has played mainly forward.
He briefly stood Riewold last week (which is like getting a ****ing tractor to chase a ferrari) and gave away a stupid unnecessary free kick. The amount of chances he has been given compared to others , with the consistent sub standard performances he has turned in , have driven many to despair.

We don't know that Dawes doesn't have the confidence , because he is never given a ****ing go. That must dent it as much as anything.

Jack's a goal kicker , who only needs a few touches to hurt a side.

Leigh Brown and Josh Fraser would want to put in some pretty special performances as forwards on Saturday. Because this quasi-forward , jack of all trade master of none , has got failure written all over it.

Good Luck to the boys....have faith and belief.
Each player knows who is selected it is time to stand up and I am positive we can win and we win well.
Last week we only lost on score board pressure, that won't happen this week.

Saturday night we will be 3-1.

Stay Positive

.

Are you sure you even watched the game?
Because the game I watched showed 90% of the behinds from set shots.

Sure our inside 50 to scoring ratio was pathetic, but we did have 6 out on the fulls.

Bottom line is we dominated the number 1 team in the league for most of a game.
Converting our opportunities is another game in itself.

Travis was our main big man, and he responded.
3 of his shots went dead straight, 1 of them was accurate.
But the fact that the other 2 were dead straight, and didn't miss by much is, gave me confidence that he is all we need up forward.
He needs the space to work with.
Anthony is too lazy to create the space.
But Travis is 1 out of 8 others that had shots.
This is why I cringe when I don't see Lockyer in our forward 50.

So how about we don't blame it on the selections because professional footballers can't kick straight.

No chance Wood will be traded to port, might be traded to the GC on our own accord.

Wood's only choices are;

1. Stay at Collingwood.
2. Go to the GC in either the national or internal draft as the GC have so many draft picks its not funny.
3. Go to the GC as a "at least we get something for him" trade.

I'd put money on him being at Collingwood again next year.

On his facebook page it has a status of him about considering joining the dark side and bellow they were comments about him and moving to port adelaide. My friend has him as a friend and thats where i got it from.
