Interesting quote from Mick.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/93844/default.aspx

But Malthouse said the rotations did not mean the club’s most experienced players were any less valuable to the team.

“It’s not that O’Bree, Lockyer and Presti don’t get a game because they’re not part of our best side," Malthouse said. "They are part of our best side, this is our system of making sure they play at a lesser intensity or they have a week off in preparation for the weeks to come.

“We were never going to progress as a football club if Nathan Brown and Ben Reid continued to play VFL football.

O'Bree in our best side, I don't think so.:thumbsd:

The last part is right though, we need both Reid and Brown to play more senior football.

Like Cruize Garlett a lot.

First game for the year after an injury layoff. Nice build for a midfielder and can find the ball.
I'd say Sharrod out is comparable to Levi out (not sure why he was a late omission) as both are integral to the teams contested ball results this year.

I'd think O'Bree, through his experience, potentially could have a bit more of an impact in this game than Garlett at this stage as our boy is still young.

I'm expecting all of O'Bree, Lockyer and Presti to feature in September.

Reasonable idea to keep them fresher for September and rest them for periods of time now.

I see what you are saying about "intregal part of your team" but Greenwood out is not comparable to Sharrod. Sharrod is playing career-best footy and would be in the top BnF at the moment.

A better comparison would have been if we decided to leave Macaffer out.

I don't think I was underrating Wellington at all because his stat averages and impact on games this year is there for all to see if you watch a few games and read a few papers. He is a gun and playing like one.
I also undestand how Levi can fly under the radar of a lot of people. His role is not as obvious to outsiders. For mine, he is easily in the top 8 in terms of importance for our team. He actually physically hurts people, and does not turn it over. He is also a gun and in my opinion was our best chance of curbing Swans influence which is massive to the outcome.

Providing we have a fully fit team, who would you be removing?

I can find a spot for Presti but imo Cheese and Lockyer should only be used as depth and to keep our younger players fresh.

Well firstly, I think having a fully fit team after Round 22 is unrealistic. I'd imagine there'd be one or two younger guys who are struggling with niggling injuries come finals time. It'd be extremely hopeful to suggest we won't have anyone in that boat.

I don't have Lockyer or O'Bree in our best 22 anymore, but if they're out of the side for most of the H & A season, with our younger guys in the side, I reckon a couple of the younger brigade will be a bit burnt out.

Do I smell fudge in the air Smiddzla? So should we be playing the older guys so our young guns are ready for finals, or vice-versa?

Well, I'd personally be playing the older guys to keep our younger guys fresh.

Mick obviously wants Lockyer/Presti etc fit and ready for finals. I'm glad he's taken the approach he has if he insists on playing them in September.

I think people are over stating how far Lockyer has regressed. The guy was played down back this year, and looked awful. I'd be willing to bet he'd have looked just as bad in 2009 down back though.

Presti has a place in our team, no question.
Lockyer will be more than useful, provided he is used up forward.
I have my doubts that Luke Ball's groin will last the distance, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was struggling a bit come September, in which case O'Bree would and should replace him.

I don't have any issue with what Mick said, personally.

Calling for Cook in is red cardable in my books, the Spicey one and Quicky out voted me though.

I am with MDC and multiple others and would certainly bring Tarks in and through Beams back on the ball.

Spicey and Quicky

Haha, I think it's a cardable offence if it is simply a call for Cook's inclusion on any given week without any sort of side note. My comment had to be looked at in context though, I was just saying in comparison to bringing back SoB (who I have continually supported and completely respect, but now believe is virtually obsolete with Ball's recruitment), Cook would at least give us some dash and probably similar levels of efficient ball use.
Cook wouldn't get any less contested ball in a game than Wellingham does these days either.

I don't want Cook in the team or anything, but I view SoB as being a bit of a backwards step in what has been a very progressive couple of weeks.
I've also got doubts over MM's willingness to only bring him back in for one week. I could see a Sidebottom having an average match on the weekend and being forced to make way for Wellingham while O'Bree stays in the side.
At least with Cook we'd be absolutely assured of it only being a one week thing :)

No! NO! NOOOOOOOOOO!

Don't even joke about things like that Invig!

O'Bree is included in case the North rucks take over and start feeding the ball down to the North in and under types like Swallow, Ziebell, Adams and Cunnington and they start taking over at the contests.

We will most likely attempt to close the game down and you guys don't want Luke Ball taking most of the load.

I actually think O'Brees inclusion is a pretty smart move by Malthouse.
