I honestly don't watch the Tigers enough to comment on Martins game, but I'm pretty sure that burst speed was a major feature of Swans game through his prime (and still is to a certain extent), and endurance was never his major forte.

In fact, the only similarity I see to Steele is that they're both durable.
Do you mean Swan doesn't have elite endurance or Martin? Because Swan surely does!

His endurance is decent, but burst speed was always the better part of his game. Go back to his peak and he was one of the most rotated players in the side. Short bursts of sprinting, off the ground, often for very short periods, back on, burst sprinting, rinse and repeat.

Stark contrast to Steele who has no real speed, but will run all day with very little rest.

Good news, we are a much better team with Sidey in it. Team player, could have pushed for a little more but better future after the career is over doing it this way. Mind you 2.75M to play football is handy.

$2.75M for 5 years...:thumbsu:

Many wouldn't have complained with a 4 year deal @ $685,000ish p.a.

Pretty happy with the end result.

Off-field. Steele, Swan and Dusty are all extremely durable and consistent footballers, IMO, but they like to party.

I have no issue with us re-signing him whatsoever I just feel the teensiest bit uncomfortable with the tenure and would have felt slightly more comfortable with it being say 3 years @ $650k.

Glad that he's re-signing overall though I have to stress that.

Steele like to party? Didn't know that?
Not sure he is in the same category as the other two, is he?

$550 is about right, possibly a fraction more than I would have thought, but the club may expect him to grow his game more than I do over the next few years. And as has been mentioned, the prospect of larger salary cap growth in future years may shift it further to our favour.

I have no issue with this.

I'd anticipate years 4 & 5 @ $550k will leave him outside out top paid players. Average wage is a tick over $300k now. By then it will be nudging $400k, IMO, where I expect a big increase to player payments for the next CBA.
