Sides that constantly throw the ball

I love browsing the Tigers board after a Geelong win. The howling about Hocking, conspiracies and anti-vax sh*t is hilarious.
I don't think the sporting world has ever witnessed the levels of salt that was produced by Geelong supporters after the 2017 Qualifying final :D

Not sure why 'letting the game flow' is a reason for not calling throws. Surely a free kick opens up play just as much.

Also, umps need to be less predictable in their positioning. When on centre wing they are always inside and players know and exploit this.

Don't all sides constantly throw the ball now? I guess mine doesn't do it as much as others because we play more of a kick mark game plan but it's not like when our players are tackled we don't just drop the ball like everyone else.

It is incredibly frustrating watching your team defend against an opposition running the ball when players keep letting go of the ball in the tackle.

A honest opinion here but I really believe there are 2 sides out there who literally throw the ball more then they handball. Its at the level where if a umpire pulled them up on this anomaly we would be looking at 40+ free kicks in a given contest. The two teams are

Richmond - Worst of the lot for sure. I dont think Kamdyn McIntosh has ever handballed the ball in his entire career. Every single one is a clear and obvious throw. His handballing technique is extremely similar to Valentime Homes passing technique I find. He puts his fist near the ball and then unleashes a NRL level spiralling bullet pass. I actually think it was a less of a issue last night than normal and they did alot more tap ons and clearer handballs due to the defensive pressure but in general they for the 120 handballs last night 20 were clear throws

Sydney - Second worst for sure. Callum Mills a expert in it from there side. Josh Kennedy been the birth of it overall though. He would be the worst in the AFL with that throw where he gets his hands above the contest and throws the ball down and over the contest. Its been 10+ years for them. Developed by Paul Roos and continued by Longmire

A small honorable mention to Geelong but im being harsh there. I tend to feel like they were the team who got pinged for it and have had to cut it out over the years so kudos on them for removing it from there game

Hey OP.

Do you mean like this?

Simple solution. AFL comes out and declares throwing / flicking the ball is to be stamped out. Because it happens so quickly and often out of sight by the umpire the AFL will review TV footage at the end of each round, issue warnings initially and then progressively come down heavier on repeat offenders and clubs. The problem is that clubs are obviously practising throwing the ball, and I reckon every club is doing it.

I think the Dogs ball movement is the most suspect, but in the end, its a matter of degrees and volume, handballing itself across the board at all clubs has been slowly compromised over the years. Ronnie Biggs was doing time. Noone is innocent.

I think a more worrying aspect of the game that allowing fake handballs is the stylistic changes it makes, the Dogs style is an ugly one and the level and type of handballing reminds me of netball. Dogs need to be vanquished to stop the game drifting further down the short skirt path.

Dees and Lions styles are, I believe, styles worth fighting for.
