I was just wondering what everyone thought about Simmo being traded to Richmond today. I said before that if he went into the preseason draft, then I would have no trouble in booing the crap out of him next year. However the trade managed to get us Heath Black, so at least we got something in exchange rather than getting shafted.

Are you still bitter about Simmo leaving, or could you not really care less?

After all was said and done in the trading, I'm pretty much indifferent. If Simmo didn't want to play for the club, at least we managed to get two players who actually wanted to come back. You cant have it both ways I guess.

I'd be pretty angry. Not at Simmonds but at the Club, in my opinion you have enough midfielders and not enough key forwards, so I would have done everything to keep him, but if he really wanted to leave I guess you just get the most you can from him regardless of the position the new player plays.

Very happy the way it has turned out. A bit sad to see him go but if he doesn't want to be here then it is time to give someone a chance that does.

Hi guys, glad freo got something for Simmonds & not left empty handed! Just wondering how good is he ? From what i have seen he seems pretty athletic for a big guy which i think will suit us.

I thought he was pretty good last season, even with the poor delivery he was getting. He got a return of about 36 goals playing mostly in the forward line and pinch hitting in the ruck. Also he was deadly accurate all season. The only thing that worried me was the amount of easy chest marks and even some overhead marks you would expect a forward to play. I don't think that his 2004 season was as good as his two previous seasons, but I would put that down to him being played in the wrong position due to the emergence of Sandilands.

lol be angry then bluey17 :D

Simmonds was a great ruckmen & an average key forward, in the end we got Black for him & that is fair.

bluey17 I'd be more concerned with the lack of KPP sought by woosha in the trade period, top midfield & what do you trade for stenglein.

But Richmond offered him a 5 year deal. Complete insanity. Simmonds is not worth that. Pav is not worth that. Let us learn from the Kouta's and Mecuri's of the past.

The club did what theyt could and we got Black.

Don't know how we could boo Snake when we got Carr and Black this trade period. It would be a bit hypocritical.

Geez 36 goals isn't to bad playing exactly the way Ottens did as a ruck/forward & Ottens has only once kicked over 40 goals in a season, thanks for the info!

Well our midfield is great but we do lack a player that can shut another key player down, which is what stenglein can do.

I would have thought fremantle needed a key forward, where is he?

Offcourse if you knew anything about football it's very hard to trade for a KPP without sacrificing a very good player and with our up and coming forward line it isn't necessary to sacrifice a judd like player, atleast we didn't trade any key forwards. Mcdougall, Gardiner, Hansen, Gaspar, Lynch, Staker are all good options, who do you have?

McPharlin, Polak, Pavlich, Longmuir and Murphy.

He'll get boo'd by me for sure. Simmonds contributed nothing to freo getting anything, he was quite happy to go for nothing. Richmond just want to keep that first PSD pick free and fair enough.

Hence I have no problems with Richmond, but Simmonds is now Judas.

Back to the key forward point.

I think you'll need Longmuire in the ruck too much, he's alot better than Sandilands. As for Pavlich, is his marking ability good enough to hold down CHF? Don't know much about Murphy yet. I don't think you can take Mcpharlin away from CHB. Will Polak be your answer at CHF?

I guess you have enough quality but from where I see it there will be alot of rotating and not a set structure, not sure if thats a good thing, am i wrong?

Fantastic....Yet another Rivalry round for tigers.

********, what are the AFL going to do with all the new rivalry rounds for the Tigers

Nah, Londontiger. Don't give much about Richmond, they're not the force they were back in the 60's, 70's, 80's, whatever. It's Simmond's we'll be watching, not the circus.

he wanted to go home just like mcpharlin, thats cool he provided a great service to our club especially in the first year whenn CC actually played him in the ruck where he belongs. good luck to him i say. lets see how we go next year with two relatively immobile ruckmen. i would like to see everyone think back then and see what a mistake it was for CC to play him out of position hence being part of the reason why he left.

I don't agree with all this key forward guff. From the trading period available big men were Ottens and Thompson (not counting Snake). These two would've demanded a premium price to come to the west and are hardly reliable. Didn't that Richmond poster say the most ottens has kicked in a season is 40 something?

Pavlich, McPharlin and Longmuir are greater chances to become the key forward we are looking for. If they were on the open market clubs would be clammering to get them into their forward lines. In a couple of years there are another couple in Polak and Murphy. I think these guys are a safer and ultimately quicker solution than hoping a Barry Hall will turn up like he did for Sydney.

I am tired of Pavlich and McPharlin being used as utilities. Stick em in the forward line and let the back line take care of itself. Back ourselves to win the game on our terms.

I'm still not sure about this one. I think we were lucky to get anything out of the Simmonds deals (very happy to get Black as at one stage I thought we would get diddly squat).

I don't wish Simmonds bad luck, but am more endearing in my thoughts towards T Lo. Really hope he goes great at Carlton - this player gave his heart and soul at Freo and would have loved to be playing with us more often.
