Yes, apparently we were a Paul Hudson away from a grand final! :D

y would troy simmonds give up the chance to be in a premeirship side in stkilda who are a genuine contender and instead chose to go to the woodenspooners and get spat on. he obviously only plays footy for the money not like most players who say they play for finals and a premeirship

even if it was a huge contract, stkilda do hav more than enough 4 him if we were to give heath black for him

he would have been stkildas number 1 ruckmen as seen in 2003 before sandilands was developd, he was playing really good footy and winning the ruck, stkilda need a ruckmen, this is why i think he isnt a good pikup, if he isnt here for the winning simple the money, wat an idiot!!!

im sure if st kilda offered him 300k for 5 yrs he would have chosen to go there. yes a premiership is a greatest honour in footy. but is it worth giving up 700k to play in one. he would have got a small slice of the money he's on at richmond if he chose the saints.

Ever thought Simmonds might want to play a large proportion of his time in the forward line? He certainly wouldn't be able to do that at St.Kilda. I'm not sure the amount of the contract was the issue, rather the length of it that got him to Richmond. Maybe he preferred to go under Terry Wallace than Grant Thomas. Who knows?

I also find it continually hilarious that people will call someone else an idiot when they can't spell or structure sentences correctly.
Erm I think you will find that it was Freo's use of him in the Fwd line that made him want out. He wants to ruck.

Typical St. Kilda supporter who has come out of his wombat hole and feels he has the right and the need to criticise a players decision.

The topic "simmonds, not the type of player you want" tells me that you don't want him but when i open up the thread you say how he should have picked the saints and not richmond. You Disgrace

Bottom line is Troy Simmonds is a star and his not playing for St. Kilda, HAHA.

Simmonds isn't that great of a ruckman. Like a lot of ruckman floating around he doesn't have the best knees either. But he does a lot of work around the ground.

That is why the surprise that Richmond gave a guy a 5 year deal with dodgy knees who only wants to ruck?

I can understand him wanting to go to melbourne, and I can understand him going for the best deal because who knows where you are going to get a flag from, but I CANNOT understand the 5 year deal.

What a stupid thread started by a stupid newbie who probably doesn't even support the Saints.

I couldn't care less he went to Richmond. Good on him, a 5 year deal is almost impossible to get.
To say all he had to do to win a flag is join St.Kilda is so stupid I can hardly believe it.
As for the Tiger fans having a go at the Saints success record, wake up. You lot are the last to throw stones. You were once a powerful club, have been a rabble for 25 years, and now under Wallace you have the chance to clean up your act.
Carrying on like you are still a powerful successful club just makes you look pathetic. Let the 20th century and the VFl go, as your coach has. This is a new century, a new comp and a new set of rules for clubs to go on.

look forward not back, otherwise you just sound like sad rrrsssed Carlton and Wobble supporters. S much as I dislike Richmond, you aren't that bad.

You'll note how I said "Who knows?". My point is that unless you asked Simmonds himself you probably wouldn't know what he wanted to do. Unless you can point me to an article saying otherwise (but you couldn't even trust that) or a voice recording of him saying to Connolly "I wanna play in the ruck! Ploeeeeeeeze!!" you wouldn't know either.

I must be the one of the few on these boards who isn't a "club insider" or who doesn't know someone who knows someone who is a club scout.

True I have no idea from an insider perspective, and am going on general media report, but I think we can quite safely say he has not gone to Richmond for forward opportunities, because he already has those, so it would not be a reason to move.

I hope this wasn't directed at me, my comment in regards to where St Kilda were 2 years ago was to point out just how quickly a team can turn it around these days, so signing for a bottom club doesn't necessarily mean going without success for the rest of your career.

As for his preference for rucking, he'll get plenty of opportunity next year, Stafford unforunately gets injured and suspended a lot meaning the load will fall on Simmonds and Hall, of which Troy will have to do most. We will pick up a ruckman in the draft but it will be a while before they are ready for senior footy.

Fair enough. Being over there (I'm assuming you're in WA), you'd have a much better idea of the general feeling than I would, but I thought part of it was that he wanted to move back to Victoria.

No it wasn't and you are correct, things can turn around, but it does take time. However Wallace realises this and is building for the long term.

It was directed at some supporters who think they are superior when they quote our wodden spoons and lack of priemerships like they arwe the most successful team ever, especially since they are the current wooden spoon holders.

None of that matters. We all start from scratch next season.

Robert Walls has more influence and gained more respect in the footy world for his past ten years. Than any richmond identity and player for the past twenty!
I thought Terry Wallace wanted to join a club that gave what everyone needed for success. Why would you join Richmond? In five years you'll have to sack HIM!

Absolutely, I'm quite sure he just wanted to go back to Vic and in the process get payed as much as he can for playing footy.

If anyone HAS to win the flag to enjoy playing footy for lots of $$ then I think they have an ego problem:)

Good on him and hope he does well.

I agree, humility is a quality oft found lacking in these parts.

Some would say Carlton do, on paper.

I hope that wasn't directed at me. I did use the spoon quote, but I apologised before hand to the Saints with brains, and was just demonstrating to the thread starter, that he/she is in no position to be putting down any club.

Wasn't directed to Sainters in general.

The big rumour that has been going around Fremantle for the last year is that Snake detists flying. The Club have even used sedatives every second week so he can travel. Richmond was an obvious choice because of their week fixture next year and the following couple of years. 2005 sees the snake on a plane just 3 times.
