I thought the new bargaining agreement didn't come into effect until next year.

Most Crows supporters acknowledge Hart has had a woeful year........... there would be as much interest in Hart as Goodwin & we could get something reasonable in return.Knowing the club was prepared to offer him might make Hart get out of the comfort zone he's in!

The coach himself has shown that he's almost lost patience with Bassett. Two weeks ago[Smart's testimonial game] he was taken off before halftime & not returned. Prior to that he got himself reported for an undisciplined act outside the team rules & after the West Coast game in Ayres' press conference he was criticised for given the ball up twice.........& his performance on Friday did nothing to inspire any confidence in keeping him on the list.He was once again on the pine before halftime.

You seem to forget the sort of footy he was playing before the suspension. He was a rock.

I was under the impression that the BA was effective as of this year's trading period.

Secondly, you say that we need to recruit another hard in and under type to cover the loss of Bickley, yet you would trade Bode. Contradiction in term there.

Bode has been caught out for a lack of pace & strength & versatility in that he's only one sided.
Opposition clubs have worked him out; Ladhams,Begley & Shirley have been preferred to him this year principally due to pace & I expect Johncock will spend more time in the middle next year & I suspect Scuback may be preferred for the same reason....

One would have expected Bode to develop 'mcdermott like' handball skills to make up for his lack of legspeed...but he's gone backwards this year

Our squad does not need major structural change next year, so we do not need to trade a gun player. We should consider trading away fringe players who we don't think will be part of our long-term future. Trading the likes of Goody, Bassett, Hart, Bode & Reilly is stupid unless we are getting a real good deal - as we need to replace them with someone of similar ilk. Also, trading away a big name is likely to upset the fabric of our side. Bottom line is our priority should be for a young ruckman.

IMO to trade a player like Goodwin ignores what gives a footy club its fabric.

Loyalty and love of the team and gurnsey.

He is a core player who will play his whole career with us

He is not tradeable

He is not a quick solution to a perceived problem.

Simon is part and parcel of the AFC

He will not be traded.

I am not saying tht we are offering him more money but you have to admit that if we were offering Brogan $50K a year more than Port and he accepts then there wouldn't be much Port could do.
Brogan signed a new contract yesterday with Port apparently.

Bad luck fellas!

Upset or over the moon?

The 36ers are probably paying Port to pay Brogan just to make sure he never returns to basketball.

Lets just say he is a much better footballer than he was a basketballer.

Tempting... but Green isn't really a strong enough KPP that we need; he'll probably end up being a tall wingman which we already have in Burton.

Plus Bode and Goodwin is a lot to take from our midfield. We've already seen a certain team slide a fair way this year after losing two of its best midfielders in the off-season. ;)
If you want to replace the priority with Jeff White we'll throw in Chris Heffernan free of charge.
Pass.

Not interested in Green as for years I reckon he is over-rated. IMO we would badly lose in this trade.

Shame on you guys for even mentioning Goody as a likely trade bait,

There are players that i believe should remain untouchable & i include Simon in that group,

well at least for the next 3-4 years,

Brad Green !!! (shakes my head in disbelief)

Ottens is still under contract next year and if we are to snatch him it would have to be at the end of 2004 season and you can expect that it would cost an arm and a leg. Goodwin and a 1st round draft pick.
I would like to see Goodwin at Richmond, but not at the expense of Ottens. By the end of 2004 Goodwin will be closer to the end of his career than the beginning, while Ottens is one of the players Richmond needs to build its team around. Ottens has missed most of this year with injury, but is starting to run back into some pretty good form. If Richmond was forced into trading Ottens in 2004 (and I hope not), we would want some good draft picks and probably a young gun in return.

If Goodwin is 27 and has been given a 3 year extension, it sounds like the crows are committed to him seeing out his career there.

I thought he was about the only Melbourne player to win his position against us earlier this season.

I don't think he's overrated at all.

Please outline the case as to why we need an overpaid aging reciever.
MOST KICKS IN AFL 2003

1. Nathan Buckley Collingwood 375
2. Gavin Wanganeen Port Adelaide 360
3. Robert Harvey St Kilda 330
4. Scott Camporeale Carlton 317

You don't want him. Fine, we'll keep him. But ageing hack? Pfft.
FYI: Camporeale has just turned 28. Goodwin turns 27 this year.

But how come the moderators allowed this:
We do no want the little grease ball from Carlton.

I disagree - you can't base Green's performances on 1 game. He has been ordinary this year & got dropped only 2 weeks ago.

100% agree Jars.

As I said originally, trading the likes of Goodwin would upset the fabric of our side. We would only consider it if we were getting an unbelievable trade deal (ie. just way to good to refuse), which won't happen, so he stays!

Ok, I've just jumped on the "Trade Goodwin" Bandwagon.. when this was first posted I ignore it, but since then Goody has given the club enough plaster of paris to create the statue of david.. Yeah he's got two AA's and helped us win important games, but I aint seen much from him of late.
Now before you all crack the sh|ts and type in captials, let me continue my rant...
Our team sucks ass, we aint winning and we won't be winning anymore games with the team we've got, he need to purge the crap and start fresh, get rid of the players that only play a few good games then go back to warming the bench, Bode, Ladhams, Mattner, Gallagher etc and get some new kids, lets do the Saint Kilda, get the young kids, yeah we won't be competitive for a while but eventually it will pay off!
I'm angry that we're playing this crap, and I'm even angrier that the club doesn't seem to want to do anything about it, I'll give this team a few more rounds and if there is no improvement I'll be trading Goodwin, and crossing my fingers Carey gets sent to the glue factory.

I'm with Dyertribe on this one, 110%
Ok people, get your angry fonts ready!

You should've seen my double-take when I came in off the soccer board... when the hell did I post that?!! Ohh six months ago! :D

Just reading my contributions on the first page... I'd love to say a big "I TOLD YOU SO!" but it would probably be an understatement.
