He can't coach this team anymore, but I don't think he'll relinquish the seat easily.

Do Crows supporters want him?

It was humorous how often they cut to him during the game and he was staring intently into the laptop screen. Like he was playing solitaire or something instead of watching the game

He's just got to go, Melbourne isn't this bad a team, so the only conclusion I can come to is that Goodwin has completely lost them and they almost want to get him sacked.

I think he had a live feed to the greyhounds

1 win in 11 games.

0-5 to start the season which is their worst start to a season since 2012 (Neeld's first year as coach).

I don't think Melbourne's list is that bad, but they need a big clean out of their coaching staff.

Goodwin's ethos of contest and defence no longer works in a time where quick transition and playing on the outside have become the key pillars of successful teams in 2025.

Maxy Gawn in the post match interview talking about how much they emphasize winning the contest/clearance and then highlighting how they had plenty of I50 opportunity is exactly why they won't go anywhere soon.

The whole coaching team and senior leaders are still locked in on the style of footy that had them on top 5 years ago.

The game is so much faster, so much more open, built on turnovers...

They had the chance to clean out Petty (Adelaide), Oliver (Geelong) and Viney (North) for a cluster of 1st round picks in recent years.

Now they'll be stuck trying to rebuild as Tassie enter the comp and vacuum all the top talent.

Definitely time for Melbourne to blow it all up at the conclusion of 2025.

Simon Goodwin and cultural issues aside, the list needs an overhaul.

Melbourne have been running back that same Gawn/Pettraca/Oliver/Viney midfield for 5+ years now; it's time for a refresh at year's end.

Petracca doesn't look like he wants to be there - so be it. Extract Maximum Compensation.
Pickett wants to go back home - no worries, but extract Maximum Compensation.

The Lever/May defense has been really good over the years and may yet have more legs yet, but time moves on.

The Demons never quite worked out their Key forward issues under Goodwin barring one and a bit nice years from Ben Brown. It's not an easy problem to fix; especially not while you think you are a contender. Richmond attracted Tom Lynch and Geelong lured Jeremy Cameron; Melbourne need to jag a KF of that ilk as a top priority.

Keep Viney and Gawn, you won't get much for the former anyway and he's good experience/leadership. Gawn is a legend and the captain and he stays at all costs.

If they're gonna slowly bottom out reluctantly might as well embrace reality before Tassie comes along and hoovers up all the kids.

The problem with blowing it all up now is that they are going to be selling Trac and Oliver for 60c on the dollar.

They might get a good deal for Pickett (especially if the Luke Jackson rumors are true) but they just won't get max value for the rest.

Theyd also be trading players out in the first of 3 really compromised drafts.

The best shot they have would be to sack Goodwin on Monday and pray that the caretaker can get them up to mid table and possibly fighting for finals.

Hit up every player agent in the comp and do what you can to rebuild that forward line and try to squeeze these lemons for another 2 years before the arse really falls out of the list.

Maybe not this bad, but their not a great team either. a lot of list holes have opened up.

Aging starting midfield, May & Lever are getting on.
Forward line has always been an issue.

They got Lindsay & Langford last year let that be the start of the rebuild.

the value of those 3 has plummeted, throw in tracca, gawn, lever and van rooy and there is no bidding war for any of them

Don't see why Chocko can't coach out the rest of the year while they suss out a long-term replacement
Or Alan Richardson.

They have options.

If they stick with Goodwin for another month then they deserve the pain TBH.
