Seriously, could the guy have handled this any worse?

By hinting at something "going on in his personal life" but then not elaborating, it's left the door open for all sorts of nuffie speculation.

If it's something very personal and private like a death or illness in the family, why even go there? Why make it public? If it's more in the order of "lifestyle choices".....again why even bother bringing it up? He wasn't specifically asked about it, there's been no commentary I can see about Gawn being unprofessional or a loose unit off field.

Seems very strange.

I have a feeling that will be the case as well. I can’t see Simon finishing the whole year. It’s depressing as a dees fan what’s going on at the moment but we have some good kids coming through. And some returning players coming in soon. Hopefully a change of coach can get the boys up and about as well. Geez I wish we kept Yze!

And why make excuses for Gawn of all players? Gawn has been incredibly consistent for years. He’s allowed to have a not so good game without it being noted by the coach and then a “personal reasons” excuse added as a p.s. Goody really has no idea and I reckon this is time to reset with a new coach. Someone like Longmire would be ideal.

bloke doesn't have too many redeeming qualities, does he? remember he was also dialing into meetings with blood noses.

I initially assumed Goody had spoke about his to Gawn before. And no issues with the coach sticking up for his skipper. But to do it without prior know from Gawn it is bad form. Gawn has pulled Goody out of the crap this morning. However we can’t be sure all is good.

Using an offield excuse to explain why a player got beaten is poor form. As Buckley said: if you're on the field, you're on and professionalism needs to take over. Otherwise don't run out.

But mix that in with the fact that he spoke out of turn. It's was a very wtf moment.
