What lies ahead for Wiggo? Can he be a regular in the 22 or will he be a depth/fill in type of player in 2010? Will this be Wiggins last year at Carlton? Your Thoughts...

Career depth player, who is in danger of losing his spot on the list at the end of each season.

2010 will probably be his last year as a Carlton player, but I've said that for a number of seasons and each time he just does enough to stick around for another season.

Love him for the effort he makes, and the guts and determination he displays with each game. A great club-man who, when looking back on his career, can say he got the best out of himself for the club that he loves. And he can be very proud of that, and I for one respect him for it.

The prime example of a good, honest battler who did, and comtinues to do everything he can to get the best out of himself.

he is one i am tipping will lose his spot on the list at the end of the season as I think the few older players like him will be done away with as we will be trying to widen our premiership window.

He doesn't suit modern football very well, he isn't all that fast, lacks consistancy, is a little one dimensional and his kicking is a long long way off par.

We have a very deep list now, especially with players his size and role. Our list has just become a whole lot deeper and will remain very deep if we have a good run with injury.

I can't see him playing many games if any.

Well for brief few weeks last year he played at a level beyond anything we had seen previously...so he was able to develop 8 years into his career.

When? Playing well for a couple of games is not development.

What's with the Mick Malthouse response to a reasonable question?

Hardly reasonable. The OP is a starchamber-esque post.

I'd call a player lifting their game to a new level development, whether its one or nine years into a career. Houlihan was another.

You might disagree, no need to be an arse about it.

Who, exactly? Tiller & O'Keeffe haven't played a game yet. Houlihan is nearing the end. Anderson's career has stalled. Johnson hasn't set the world on fire.

Granted Jordan Russell has passed him and Mitch Robinson looks promising.

Few of our 'midfielders' can provide a physical contest and take a strong grab overhead. When a defender looks to clear the ball outside defensive 50 who do they trust? Wiggo!

I'm not saying Simon's time isn't nigh but his role is understated.

So would I.... but Wiggins hasn't taken his game to a new level.

Houlihan was another.
When did he take his game to another level?? He will play his 200th game this season if I'm not mistaken... the luckiest 200 game player the AFL has ever seen. If he was at any other club bar Carlton he'd have been given the flick 5 years ago.

Just telling it like it is.

Playing off a HFF seems his only position, yet his kicking for goal really does let him down. If he is to hold his spot, then he really needs to improve his conversion rate. I'm a really big fan of the Chiefs, but I suspect 2010 will be a year he has to do everything right to hold his spot. Ratts has already indicated that Yaz will be playing alot more senior footy than he did in 2009.

Even so, HFF's come in different shapes and sizes. Yarran may outwit opponents with evasion and silky skills. Yet he doesn't yet have the overhead strength nor endurance of Wiggins.

Thus I see Garlett and Yarran continuing to perform crumbing goalsneak roles with occasional stints on the ball. Russell/Wiggins/Robinson/Houlihan etc would still be needed to push up to the wings and link up between the arcs.

This one :thumbsu:

I am surprised he has survived another year.

That's what happens when you are one of the Coach's favourites

Or when you run back with the flight of tha ball into a pack to take a great defensive mark .

The bloke gives 100 percent every time he runs onto the ground ..And he is willing to put his body on the line and take a hit just to block for a teammate ...thats what makes you a coachs favorite .

I wish a few more on our list had the blokes determination to succeed ...being a footballer is not all about flashy skills you know.

i'd be hoping he would be in danger of losing his spot at the START of the season!

Wont look good for our youngsters if he is there at the end:(:(

I absolutely love the Wiggler and I hope he can get himself a few games this year

So do I. He had a little purple patch at the end of last year/ start of this year where I kind of hoped he might grow to be the new Hickmott (shocking head, no idea of self-preservation, can take a grab).

Then I worked out who the one with no idea was.

This video says it all

I concur...

There is something to be said for what the Wiggler brings to our footy club, even though only those in the inner sanctum would truly be able to grasp the impact he has on the place. His spot on the list and his value goes obviously beyond that of his on-field exploits (statistic wise), and as long as CFC want to keep him on board I personally will never object.

Wiggins will play plenty of footy next season. He's a role-player for the team. An earlier post referred to his courage [or is that stupidity]. When the opposition clear the space in front of the big leading forward I know Wiggo will sacrifice his body for the team. Players who wear 34 for Carlton are special.

It is quite conceivable that Wiggo will not play an AFL game this season, or ever again.

There's no way he's near being in our best 22.

Unlike a few others, he is genuinely a one-position player - lead-up HFF. We've got numerous options for that role now.

At the start of season 2009 he played a few genuinely AFL-standard games, and then he fell away to being very unproductive and ineffectual.

If he's on the field for us, we're struggling. I too admire his courage and heart, but that doesn't make up for roosting the pill out on the full time and again when shooting for goal.

If Wiggo or Brad Fisher had've been drafted in 1992 they wouldn't have played an AFL game between them.

That video gave me goosebumps. Gotta love the wiggler (even if some of you apparently don't )
