MCG Ground dimensions: 160 metres x 141 metres
Gabba: 156 metres x 138 metres
SCG: 149 metres x 136 metres
Etihad: 159.5 metres x 128.8 metres
Adelaide Oval: 167.05 x 123.93
Domain: 175.6 metres x 122.4 metres
Simons : 170 metres x 115 metres
The above is a list of the main stadiums at which the AFL play. Simons is the narrowest.
It stands to reason if your home ground is 26 metres narrower than the ground at which the Grand Final is played, your strategy and structure would be different to teams who play on a wider ground.
In my mind this gives Geelong a massive advantage over all other teams and explains their record there.
If they play half their regular season games at Simons, they are almost guaranteed to make finals regardless of their relative team strength.
I am not sure how this can be resolved to remove a permanent advantge to one team? Maybe the AFL need to modify the fixture so Geelong do not get so many home games.
