Which was typical. The guy was never able to string together more than three or four games, which is appalling when you consider some of the absolute spuds being patronised games for Freo these days. I always thought he was a beautiful kick and needed the club to show faith and let him get used to the AFL level.

Nah, he was just not up to it at AFL level. A good WAFL player, but he had limited contested marking ability, was not a particularly good reader of the play, and close to zero in defensive ability. He did have a great kick, but if you can't find the pill, you don't kick many goals.
Over 48 games he averaged 5 kicks, 3.7 marks, 1 goal, and under a tackle a game. In 4 games, he managed to take more than 1 contested mark.

That's pretty much the heart of it. When he was in the Freo list, he looked good enough for AFL when playing WAFL, but that he belonged in the WAFL when playing AFL.

I always found Murphy a bit of a tease. He had ability, was quite skilled, but just not quite enough of all those ingredients. I wonder how he would have gone in a truly elite system we have running today. Whether he would have been able to develop that bit more pace, bit more physical presence, work into a system etc. Not sure, I doubt it, but I wonder.

Anyone remember Andrew shipp? Dominated his first couple of years, then completely fell off the radar... Not that he's my biggest disappointment (that goes to josh Simpson) but since we are going down memory lane.... Shipp seemed like he was on his way to stardom

I once found Shipp's dog. Returned it to him. Took a roll of turf out of a shopping trolley out the front of his house.

Gees, yes, another one that teased but went nowhere.

I wouldn't say he 'dominated' though. Had a really good first year as a medium fwd, very promising off memory, then really never went on with it from there then went backwards and was delisted after 4 or so years in the system.

Ok dominated maybe a bit much, but back then, anyone who looked like they could half play looked like a champion for us.... From memory, Damian drum took over and all of a sudden he didn't get games.. Disappointing..

Yeah Shipp was rubbish. It just shows how shallow on talent we were that he could clog the list for so many years.

What do you expect from a guy from Sale in country Victoria

A few things.

1. Genuinely hope he gets his life together, a tough situation, hopefully it all works for the best.

2. Genuine waste of talent

3. Genuine waste of a first round pick.... Bond and Lloyd other than with hill, have regularly thrown out first picks away... I reckon even I could fluke a good pick with a first rounder here or there... Bloody frustrating

Sort of agree with this...

Bit harsh on Morabito. Cant help that he had 3 knee recos.

Sheridan and Apeness are good money to be handy players in years to come.

Also had the turning circle of a truck.

Polak has to be one of our most disappointing failures, looked very good in his early games.
Polak struggled with the expectation of being the young hope. He lost confidence and ended up asking to be traded, think a better coach would have helped. Saw him kick a bag tor East Freo before he was drafted,

Strongest draft of all time, complete failure as first live pick.

But there are a lot of "what ifs" in Freo's history. As much as I thought he was a bad trade, I would love to have seen Headland play under Ross.

Polly liked to party more than he wanted to play football and didn't get it until it was too late.
