Its a shame he's been lost to us but he has to to get himself sorted out home near his own family. Allow him to mature and sort out what he really wants out of life. Sheesh lifes not a dress rehearsal.

AFL is not for everyone and its a huge move for guys like him to be drawn into that life. How would we go in his culture.

Anyway he may want to have another go in a year or so.

I count about 80% positive supportive posts in the last page or so.
To be honest I wrote that post after skimming through a particular rough patch in this thread. Most folk are decent. Granted. Although the reasonable amount of likes would indicate a few people share those sentiments and im not far off the mark.

How sanctimonious of you.
How dare you suggest I am not a decent person because I don't care what he does with himself.
He is not a Fremantle player and therefore I don't give a toss about him.

This isn't a white kid from a private school getting delisted and returning home to an easy, good life with people who care about him all around him and every possible opportunity. It's not some "my life is AFL and I'll do anything to return, look, I'm even doing beach runs!" piece you get for delisted players.

This is a marginalised Aboriginal who was at a cross-roads in his life and has now made a positive stride – got a job, plays footy at the level he wants, is with his family, and is back connected to his land.

Just because a person doesn't post on here, a well wishing platitude doesn't make them a non decent person.
That was my point. For the record I had not posted anything in this thread before this and that is because I simply don't care to.
I didn't care what happened to Jeff White either, when he turned his back on Freo to run home to his mum.

Jeff White turned out to be soft and rubbish anyway. We did well there in a way.

I'm glad he found a place he's happy, and that his talent's not completely lost to football. I hope he helps some kid/s to grow up and become future Dockers, and help them to be a lot more prepared than he was.

Throwing away what could have been a multi-million dollar career because he didn't feel like it is not a positive stride for Josh or his family. Let's stop pretending he'll be better off, because he most surely won't.

Depends what you call better off. Money may not be of great importance in his culture.
Not everyone feels the need to have money, thats a white persons desire.

He'll be better off from a work/family balance, from being out of the spotlight and also for being closer to home. Some things are worth more to a man than money - something he also probably wouldn't have been as familiar and dependent on as much as a few posters on a footy forum i'm sure..

Yet you still think he gives a rats about money. Money was probably not the motivation for him pursuing a footy career, it stemmed from his own enjoyment in playing.

I'm sure he's never been rich and can get by just fine without that multi million dollar contract. Extended family would have been putting the pinch on him for money every 5 minutes, guess they'll leave him alone now.

Ive met happy rich people and sad rich people, happy poor people and sad poor people. Heaps of the best things in life are totally free

I have a better idea. Let's stop pretending we know what's best for people we haven't even met.

The assumption that money buys happiness is incredibly naive.

He's an Aboriginal from remote Australia.

They simply do not care about the things white Aussies do.

Which is pretty cool.

Haha quality tag.

And yeah its a stupid comment.

He was our best player in our best era since the 60's. Got us into the finals on multiple occasions, was the best ruck in the league for a few years.

Hell the AFL changed the actual rules because he was too effective.

Bingo.

Not everyone wants to be a "footy guy". Trav Johnstone was another.

Its not even about being indigenous. Some blokes are just non conformists, and footy requires a certain level of sacrifice of your identity to fit into the borderline fascist (well, not even that borderline really) culture in footy clubs.
