simpson for vc

Simpson would be a magnificent vice, stevo is a gun but doesn't seem to care enough about personal fitness and could be a bad example. My girlfriends little sister used to work at kfc in greensy a couple of years ago and said whitnall and stevo were there bi weekly minimum. Stevo should play arcoss half forward because his too fat for the midfield and he finishes well.

Although I think simpson would be great, he is an outside player. A winger is not a typical postion to lead from. I think he is our best option atm.

I'm all in favor of Simmo as VC.

Led the way today. Only player with 30+ disposals.

Proven in the past to play well when granted extra responsibility.

Regardless, Stevens needs to be stripped of it IMMEDIATELY.

Simmo bled blue today. Ran himself into the ground, easy BOG. You saw how stuffed he was towards the end of the match when after about his 5th effort he could barely lift himself off the ground.

Stevo leads well on field so I wouldn't be stripping the Vice-captaincy of him just yet.

Would rather wait a few years and pass it onto one of the younger guys (murph, Gibbs, Jamo?) then have it thrown around like a rag doll.

I would've thought he's playing 2's because he doesn't lead well on the field. When he shows some character and application, he will be considered for a berth in the team - surely we want our VC consistently setting the standards in training, match preparation, recovery, commitment....
In answer to the thread, Simpson may well be the player to take over from Stevens - I wouldn't have thought so until recently. The best candidate will display the above qualities, together with good communications skills and have the utmost respect of his teammates (sounds like a job advert) - those INSIDE the club will know who fits this criteria. For me it sounds like Kruezer!

It is unjust that a player like Stevens is VC of this footy club instead of someone like Simmo.

Stevens is a soft, selfish player and his status as Vice Captain should be stripped from him at the end of the season without a doubt.

Simpson is the complete opposite of Stevens in that he's as tough as nails, is willing to put his body on the line time and time again, and actually busts a gut with the amount of running he does out on the ground each and every week.

Simmo would be a well deserving recipient of the vice captaincy of the Carlton Football Club.

Would you like some cheese with that whine ???

Your one of the many who love to 'indulge' in kicking a bloke when he's down, especially one who has given great service to this club, and we all know he won't be vice captain next year, but for crying out loud, Simpson as tough as nails, that's laughable ...
The bloke played in considerable pain for a couple of years, before he had an operation last year to fix that problem in his neck region, which could have made him a paraplegic ..

How many contested possies thoes Simpson average per game ? For crying out loud, Ryan Houlihan had more contested possies then Simpson yesterday.

On the basis of one admittedly very good game, you don't put up a bloke in for the vice captaincy role, and besides I'd much prefer if we elevated more younger players to the leadership group next year, I prefer the club embarking on an youth-led leadership movement, Simpson will never be captain of this club, and his career would be over in 3 years time or so, I would think, so making him a VC would be a pointless exercise, give VC to your Murphy's, your Gibbs', your Jamison's etc ... (not saying Simpson wouldn't be a worthy VC btw, but I prefer we start 'mentoring' the younger generation for leadership roles for longer

It is so annoying that you have to bring down a good player for the club for a very long period of time, in Stevens, and btw if we're talking about 'only having tough players' as captains/vice captains, how come Essendon have 'Pink Lloyd' as captain of their club, a bloke who has made 'diving' and playing for free kicks in front of goal, an artform in the last 10 or so years ?

Jordan Russell anyone?!

Jesus, this hypocrisy is getting out of hand, surely!

Simpson has played more than one very good game, I think he;s a good choice for VC. But yes any of the others you mention are great also.

BTW I;m not bagging Stevens, I;m a fan actually, never write a champion off I say.

I feel Simmo is one of our better leaders. There were moments early in the freo game when he did the 'lead by example' captain things with his hardess and efforts when most of our team looked lost. It was then that i said to the people i was watching the game with "why isnt he (simmo) our captain" simple because i disagree with Judd being given captain when he was but thats another issue. So yes i think Simmo is a great leader on field, off field i have no idea as im not involved in the club. One thing we do know about Simmo is he wont be dropped for more that 3 games for poor efforts and not playing for the team.

Simmo, definitely. Was great when he had the temporary captaincy post-Lance-pre-Judd. Good enough for the MC to stop the rotation thing they were doing and let him do it for the last few games of the year.
Sometimes has a bad day, but never stops trying his guts out.

Stevens may have the experience, but watching quietly while your opponent runs off with the ball, or cracking the sads in the 2's or not keeping yourself fit enough: these are not the things a leader does.

If not Simmo, then I reckon Murph.
Maybe Gibbs, but I'm not 100% convinced he is loyal to the navy blue the way you want your captain to be.

Murph's response to the question on 1WaaT was understandable, but a bit sad all the same. He shouldn't have to um and ah to protect his current VC.
