Round 9 vs Western Bulldogs at Perth Stadium
A 7 goal to 1 first quarter saw us jump out of the blocks against the Dogs at home in Round 9, as we ran away winners by 23 points at Perth Stadium.

Led by veteran Stephen Hill and the skipper Nat Fyfe once again, our midfield got on top early with ruckman Rory Lobb beating young Dogs ruck English. James Aish and Andy Brayshaw provided great support in he middle and provided our forwards with plenty of attacking opportunity, especially in the first half when the whips were cracking.

Forwards Jesse Hogan and Sam Sturt proved a handful up front with 9 goals between them, combining well with the dynamic Son Son Walters who pushed forward to kick 3 majors, again splitting his time between mid and forward.

For the Dogs, youngsters Richards and Lipinski were lively, while Bontempelli showed his class and local boy Aaron Naughton chipped in with 4 majors.

It's good to see some of the Freo guys at the top of the stats sheets.
  • Jesse Hogan is coming 3rd in the Coleman, only 5 goals behind JJK. His 44 goals, 16 behinds is extremely accurate. Note that he missed round 1, so has the highest goals per game average in the league.
  • Nat Fyfe is leading the competition for Dreamteam points, and has the 6th most kicks, 3rd most handballs, 2nd most disposals, 5th most tackles and 4th most frees for.
  • Rory Lobb has the most hitouts in the league, 11th most kicks, 9th most handballs, and 3rd most Dreamteam points.
  • James Aish has the 4th most handballs.
  • Adam Cerra has the 8th most marks, 19th most kicks, 15th most handballs and 11th most disposals.

Round 10 vs Richmond Tigers at MCG
Both sides entered the clash looking for a win, only Freo were looking to consolidate our position in the top four, while Richmond were looking to stem the flow and find form for a back end of the season charge into finals contention.

After a tight first quarter, the Tiges pulled away int he second, opening up a handy lead at the main break. They pushed that lead out to 5 goals by three quarter time, and despite a late Freo comeback, hampered by some wayward kicking, Richmond held on to record a 16 point win against a bitterly disappointed Freo side.

Son Son Walters was best afield for us, his 21 touches and 3 goals proving him to be the most dangerous mid/forward in the game in 2020. Andy Brayshaw toiled manfully in the engine room alongside fellow third year player Adam Cerra, while veteran Stephen Hill turned back the clock with a solid hitout on the wing. Skipper Nat Fyfe was well held on a rare down day, while full forward Jesse Hogan was another to lower his colours against a powerful reigning Premiership side just finding their groove.

For Richmond, Rioli and Prestia were their best with ball in hand, while the dangerous Stack and unlikely ruckman Edwards gave Fremantle plenty to think about, but it was a heroic effort from Captain Cotchin bagging 6 majors from full forward that put the Dockers to the sword.

MATCH-UPS :
  • While not all all one-way, T Lynch was slightly more polished than A Brayshaw. - 95m from 4 to 99.

  • While both players struggled to make an impact, A Pearce came out tops over the brave J Riewoldt. - 57m from 2 to 59.
  • While both players struggled to make an impact, N Fyfe came out tops over the brave A Rance. - 10m from 2 to 12.
  • Neither having much reason to brag, S Hill did very well against A Rance. - 1m from 98 to 99.
  • Neither having much reason to brag, S Sturt did well against A Rance. - 50m from 16 to 66.
  • Neither having much reason to brag, L Schultz had the better of D Astbury. - 24m from 7 to 31.

  • In an enthralling contest, D Martin did well against D Tucker. - 84m from 15 to 99.
  • While the match-up was a bit of a side-show, D Rioli did well against J Aish. - 40m from 2 to 42.
  • Neither getting, near the ball much, D Rioli gave M Frederick a bit of a touch-up. - 4m from 46 to 50.
  • In what was a very slow day for both, D Rioli exposed S Sturt's frailties. - 14m from 79 to 93.
  • While overall a quiet day for both players, J Short massacred D Tucker. - 6m from 3 to 9.
  • Spending most of the game pushing and shoving each other, J Castagna and E Hughes were evenly matched. - 40m from 0 to 40.
  • In a comparatively small-fry arm wrestle, it could be argued that K Lambert had the better game against E Hughes - although there was very little in it. - 38m from 52 to 90.
  • While worlds weren't set on fire, J Short massacred H Young. - 56m from 34 to 90.
  • While both players struggled to make an impact, H Young came out tops over the brave S Bolton. - 23m from 0 to 23.

  • Neither having much reason to brag, L Schultz was easily the winner in the clash with I Soldo. - 49m from 48 to 97.
  • In what was a very slow day for both, J Aish had J Castagna's measure. - 45m from 45 to 90.
  • In what was a very slow day for both, J Hogan either broke even with J Caddy or vaguely bested him - it was hard to tell. - 73m from 23 to 96.
  • Neither getting, near the ball much, L Ryan gave J Graham a bit of a touch-up. - 36m from 4 to 40.
  • In what was a very slow day for both, N Wilson was easily the winner in the clash with J Graham. - 21m from 68 to 89.
  • In what became a bit of a clinic, T Cotchin was way too good for J Hamling. - 89m from 1 to 90.
  • While the match-up was a bit of a side-show, not much between J Riewoldt and L Valente - the former was probably a smidgeon better. - 30m from 60 to 90.
  • While worlds weren't set on fire, I'm not sure that what N Wilson did to K Lambert should be entirely legal. - 49m from 1 to 50.
  • Toe to toe throughout, S Bolton and M Frederick were hard to separate - though S Bolton was slightly more effective. - 45m from 54 to 99.
  • In a resume-material performance, M Pickett had N Fyfe's measure. - 84m from 14 to 98.
  • Neither having much reason to brag, S Sturt had the better of M Pickett. - 0m from 7 to 7.
  • While not all all one-way, M Walters came out tops over the brave N Vlaustin. - 96m from 3 to 99.

Some notes from this round (loss to Greater Western Sydney):
  • Jesse Hogan's 4 goals were not enough to catch JJ Kennedy or A Naughton for the Coleman Medal. He comes in a respectable 3rd place with 50 goals from 10 games.
  • Fyfe and Cerra tied for the 11th most kicks (122) for the regular season.
  • Aish (123) and Fyfe (122) came 4th and 6th respectively for most handballs for the competition.
  • Fyfe had the 4th most disposals for the competition.
  • Cerra had the 5th most marks with 61.
  • Fyfe had the 13th most tackles for the season with 59. He was also the umpire's pet, with the second most frees for across the season (41) behind old mate Tim Kelly across the road at Marghetts Stadium. A quiet last game saw him drop down to the 4th most Dreamteam points though (942).
