In the Last 4 Seasons we have finshed between 4th-8th after the Regular Season but we have not Made 1 GF yet and That Tells me we are staying that Same as a Finals Team and that is it.

Who Else Agrees?

Not me. I think 2006, 2007 we had a much older team (Clement, Wakelin, Burns, Buckley, Rocca etc) and now our team is building again. We have a lot of young players who have shown a lot (Pendlebury, Thomas, Cloke) or at least shown that they could have alot (Sidebottom).

I hope we build in a few years to a team that does make the GF, and I don't expect us to make the finals this year.

By all rights we should have bottomed out

or did you conviently forget losing these guys:
Clement
Buckley
holland
tarrant
Liguria
burns
wakelin
rocca (injured since 07)

oh yeah doesn't help your argument

we are also a more rounded side now then 06

yeah lost a lot of experience as pointed out , we had no right to make the finals in 06 07 especially.

rebuilding whilst stayin in the 8 is a fair effort, can only get better from here

The way I see it is that we are taking some positive steps forward and we have plenty of reason for optimism.

We have bread some nice youngsters who are only going to get better and this trade period managed to get a quality ruckman in Darren Jolly.

This comming season with a significantly harder draw and other teams around us also gaining strength top 4 is no guarantee and on the surface it very well might look like we are taking a step back at the end of next season.

Regardless of the result this comming year I think we will come out of the season another year stronger and another year closer to a flag.

Personally I think 2011 could very well be our flag year. :thumbsu:

You know that there is no ruling that you have to post a certain number of post per day.

Unless of course you are "on a bet", in which case you acknowledge as much in the OP.

In your post you totally discount the fact we lost half a side, and possibly the best half, over that 4 years, blooded a dozen young players and developed another half dozen good players into excellent players.
All this while maintaining a finals presence and gaining the necessary experience to actually have some impact in the years to come.

Agree with most responses.

If we were Carlton, we would've tanked in 2007.

We've effectively rebuilt our team and made the prelim on 2 occasions. Promising signs for the future.

Similar but not the same. I'd say that in 06 we relied on our experienced players to win us games and we still do now in 09. The difference is that the experienced players have changed from the Buckley's, Licuria's etc to Davis, Didak etc. We have a better group of kids now than we did 4 seasons ago but with the exception of Pendlebury and Anthony to an extent they aren't really making too much impact on the team as a whole. Lacklustre finals performances from the elder players correlate very well with thrashings at the hands of St.Kilda and Geelong.

We have gone backwards since 2007. In 2007 we were 5 points off a GF, this year 70 plus points.

Forget ladder position, look at the real comparison between us and the premier. last year we were 10 goals behind the premier, this year 13 goals. no matter which way you look at it, we have slipped.

Hi,

I am a Packer fan in the NFL. We have the youngest team, yet veteran leadership seems to help quite a bit. We, too, are at the point where you want results, not rebuilding all the time. I am trying to be a Magpie fan, and winning always gets more fans. ;)

Geez that is one of the worst theories I have come across!

That's sound like a bit like the 2006 Side where we had a lot of Kid but the Older Players in Bucks,Rocca,Clement and Burns made the Team a lot better

I think the Packers and the Pies share a little bit here, as both sets of supporters are that mad about their respective teams, that even when they are struggling, most fans still turn up.

As for this thread, Opti hit it on the head when he listed the list of great players that have retired over the past 3-4 years.

I think we have done pretty well to reach the last 4 2 out of 3 times while rebuilding our list for a "realistic" crack at a flag.

I think MM and the team played their hand in trade week this year, when we tried to get 2-3 experienced players over, basically stating to the world we are on the edge of our "premiership window".

The next 3-4 years will be our time, if you come back to me in 4 years time and say we haven't won a flag, I'll be pissed, but at the moment I am content with our progress.

2010-2013 will be our window for a real crack at a premiership, don't worry about that.:)

Its hardly a theory, that will be the very same measure malthouse will look at when assessing the list against the very best. The very best being the benchmark and us being 13 goals off that as evidenced by our implosion in the finals, last year 10 goals off that benchmark, being beaten 2 times by that margin by hawthorn, the year before, 1 goal. You do the maths. We aint close to being flag material, no matter our ladder position.

In 2007 we had all of Rocca, Buckley and Clement.

That is all that needs to be said.

Heard some ********s on the radio today saying the pies will get the wooden spoon. Not sure what they were on.
I'm surprised they managed to conquer the task of dialling, in order to get themselves on air.

Don't try, just relax and let it happen naturally. :D

I can not think of stupider logic. That is like "We beat Carlton by 50 points, Carlton beat Geelong by 30 points, therefore Collingwood > Geelong by 80 points".

You have to admire his left field logic!

The evidence is provided by our finals series, we were 13 goals off the mark. There is only one way to measure our position against other clubs and that's by how much we win or lose by. We lost to the eventual premier in a life and death contest by 13 goals. Thats how much we are off the mark. When everything was at stake, that's how much better Geelong were better than us. No simpler measure than that. Of course you can join the syncophants and find some glory in one of our most pathetic finals series, but in reality, we have slipped comparitively from 2007. We are further away from bridging the gap between us and the very top then we were 2 years back!

How much did st.kilda lose their prelim final by in 08?

What was the score when north pasted hawthorn in the semi 07?

Geelong didn't even play finals 06

see why your logic is flawed and dumb
